Westminster Cracker Company has been baking in Vermont since 1828. Our oysters and saltines are made from seven simple ingredients by a team of about 80 people who take real pride in what comes out of the plant. We're hiring a Production Supervisor to run one of our shifts.
The Production Supervisor manages all production activity on the assigned shift and is responsible for its output, quality, food safety, safety, and people. You'll direct the hourly team, set staffing and station assignments, and make the day-to-day production decisions within the shift's plan.
What you'll do
- Plan the shift from the production schedule, assign stations, and set priorities before the first run starts
- Make real-time decisions on line speed, changeovers, downtime, and staffing when a line is down, short, or ahead
- Be the reporting supervisor for every hourly employee on your shift — attendance, time approval, coaching, and performance reviews
- Interview candidates and make hiring recommendations for your team
- Enforce GMP, HACCP, SQF, and allergen controls, and stop any line when safety or quality calls for it
- Coordinate with Maintenance, Planning, and Quality to keep the shift running
- Report shift results — output, yield, waste, downtime, labor — accurately and on time
What we're looking for
Must-haves:
- 3+ years in food or consumer goods manufacturing, including at least 1 year leading others as a lead or supervisor
- Working knowledge of GMP, HACCP, and SQF on a production floor
- The ability to run a shift independently — make decisions without waiting, and hold people accountable consistently
- Clear communication in writing and in person, and basic computer skills for reporting, timekeeping, and email
- Availability to work the assigned shift, including weekends and extended hours when production requires, and to cover other shifts when needed
- High school diploma or equivalent
Nice-to-haves:
- HACCP certification (or willingness to complete it within your first year)
- Spanish proficiency or French — a real advantage with our team
- Experience in a baked goods or snack facility under a SQF scheme
The environment
You'll spend most of the shift on your feet on the production floor, with short stretches at a desk. Expect machinery noise, seasonal temperature swings, flour dust, and the PPE that comes with a food plant (hairnet, hearing protection, slip-resistant shoes). Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs when you step in to cover a gap.
What we offer
- $60,000 - $75,000 annual salary (position is exempt)
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with company match
- Paid time off and paid holidays
- A 200-year-old company small enough that your decisions show up in the results the same week
