Position Summary
The Alexander Dawson School seeks a full-time math and data strategist to work with our Middle School Learning Support Team. As a Learning Support Team member in the middle school, this position leads educators to plan and execute “right there” instruction to students in grades 5-8. They will collect and analyze data from various standardized and internal assessments to design differentiated learning experiences for students, particularly overseeing the quarterly instructional objectives and groupings for our WIN (“What I Need”) program. They will also co-organize the administration of ERB testing in the middle school. In addition to providing small-group instruction during WIN, they will teach one core eighth-grade algebra course and serve as an advisor (grade level to be determined) by delivering Dawson’s advisory curriculum and serving as the point person for the families of approximately 10-12 advisees.

Expertise

Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to develop and implement instruction, support differentiation, and strengthen math teaching across grades

Work with teachers to interpret various data points (ERBs, exit tickets, unit tests, LMS reports) to identify trends and design approaches to improve student achievement in the middle school, providing summary reports to the Teaching & Learning Leadership Team

Identify and manage a collection of supplementary math resources to support diverse learning styles and student engagement

Lead data discussions with the math department

Design high-school placement practice opportunities for eighth graders based on an understanding of placement tests and ninth-grade math curriculum, and meet with families about individual student high-school preparation related to math as needed

Co-coordinate middle school ERB testing with the Director of Student Services

Plan and deliver WIN instruction (i.e., small-group instructional intervention) using assessment data to assist with educational planning and flexible student groupings

Create lesson plans for WIN student groups and one eighth-grade algebra course

Serve in a substitute teacher role as needed

Assist with classroom prep (copying, bulletin boards, material preparation)

Teach a middle school advisory and lead a Student Voice Group or Club

Qualifications, Education & Experience

Experience working with middle-school-aged students
-
B.A./B.S. or M.A. in mathematics or math education
-
Experience teaching pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry
-
Previous experience in a strategist role preferred

High level of computer technical skills required and comfort utilizing Google Suite products, student information systems, and learning management systems
