Job Summary

Next World is seeking a highly skilled and experienced US Finance Director/Controller to join our dynamic team. This crucial role oversees all financial operations for taxable and tax-exempted entities in the United States, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strategic financial planning. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with an extensive background in finance and accounting, and be able to adopt new technology, drive financial efficiency, and support the company's financial objectives.

Key responsibilities include managing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis, as well as implementing and maintaining robust financial systems, controls, and procedures. The US Finance Director/Controller will collaborate closely with Leadership to provide financial insights and recommendations, contributing to strategic decision-making processes. This position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Reporting Line

The US Finance Director/Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is supported by two direct reports -- the Assistant Controller and the Senior Accountant.

Role & Responsibilities

The US Finance Director/Controller will manage all financial activities for NextWorld in the US. This role requires a strategic expert to enhance performance, ensure compliance, and maintain accurate and state-of-the-art financial and information systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Leadership and Management:
    • Develop and implement financial strategies that align with Next World's overall business goals by effectively using practical management tools like OKRs for strategic priorities.
    • Provide leadership and direction to the finance team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement, including professional development opportunities.
    • Oversee finance and accounting operations to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial data and reports.
    • Assist and collaborate with the ESG team in impact measurement and attribution reporting for NW.
  1. Accounting and Tax Compliance:
    • Lead financial and tax reporting process and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain a robust internal control environment to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
    • Manage and collaborate with external accounting, tax, legal, and audit professionals (including not-for-profit entities’ audits) and advisors in planning, reporting, and compliance (e.g., quarterly tax estimates and capital account reports).
  1. Investment and Fund Management:
    • Support the CFO and investment team in preparing investment valuations, LP reporting, and fund metrics.
    • Ensure timely and effective communication with stakeholders, including LPs and external advisors.
    • Manage relationships with external vendors, including fund administrators, auditors, and legal teams.
  1. Operational Leadership & Internal Controls:
    • Implement and improve financial processes and controls.
    • Maintain effective internal control systems to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial records.
    • Conduct regular reviews to ensure compliance with internal policies and external requirements and regulations.
  1. Financial Planning and Analysis:
    • Develop and manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis processes to provide insights and recommendations for decision-making.
    • Collaborate with department heads in monitoring financial performance against key metrics, identify areas for cost savings, and provide reports to Leadership.
  1. Cash Flow Management:
    • Coordinate with the Investment Finance Director on cash forecasting, liquidity planning, financing strategies, and capital structure to support business growth.
    • Manage cash flow and working capital to ensure the financial stability of the US operations.
    • Monitor debt and interest expenses and compile compliance certificates.
    • Monitor funding and bank account balances and oversee expense reporting processes.
  1. Risk Management:
    • Identify financial risks and develop mitigation strategies to protect the company’s interests.
    • Analyze trends to reduce financial risks associated with investments or spending decisions.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.
  1. Stakeholder Collaboration & Special Projects:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support strategic initiatives and business development opportunities.
    • Plan, collaborate, monitor, budget, and communicate on special projects as they arise, including sustainability reporting standards and social impact reporting, if any.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; CPA, MBA, or CGMA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in finance and accounting, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
    • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, financial regulations, and compliance requirements.
    • Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Extensive background in financial and accounting system implementation and improvement.
    • Proven experience in financial planning, analysis, and reporting.
    • Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, manage multiple priorities, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Aspire to be CFO and have a demonstrated track record towards achieving that goal.
