College Counseling and Program Coordinator
Carondelet High School (About us) is looking for a part-time (24-hours/60%) College Counseling and Program Coordinator for the 2023-2024 School Year. The College Counseling and Program Coordinator is part of a team collaboratively working to create an environment where all students are provided the resources they need to succeed at Carondelet and beyond. The College Counseling and Program Coordinator works closely with Carondelet High School’s students, parents/guardians, faculty and staff, community stakeholders, and outside professionals to help meet the various needs and challenges related to preparing for their post-high school journey. The College Counseling and Program Coordinator embodies the school’s core values and works to accomplish the school’s mission.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Lives the mission of the school, in the CSJ tradition, through a thorough knowledge and understanding of the mission, vision, and values of Carondelet High School.
Has strong interpersonal relationship skills and is able to interact with people in a friendly and positive fashion.
Creates an environment where a growth mindset is a prominent presence in all aspects of school.
Maintains positive relationships and communication with students, parents, faculty, and staff to ensure an excellent educational experience.
Engages enthusiastically with and responds positively to the needs of students, faculty, families, staff, alumni, and the public outside the school in order to help maintain a positive and vibrant school community.
Is a life-long learner who takes advantage of professional growth opportunities related to their job and education in general.
Works collaboratively with Student Life, Admissions, and Academics to ensure an excellent educational experience in all areas of school life.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
College Advising:
Serves as the primary point of contact for 9th-grade/10th students and parents
Meets with students and conducts course advising meetings with all 9th graders
Develop 9th and 10th-grade classroom presentations related to course advising and college readiness
Implement 9th and 10th-grade parent engagement opportunities
Write summer program recommendation letters for 9th graders as needed
Research, compile, and update summer programs document
Communications:
Assist with writing and sending weekly eNews, maintaining communications calendar, and composing and sending communications to families and students
Manage Scoir registration, drive, and surveys for students
Update department website
Maintain and update C&C resource handouts and Schoology College Hubs
Event Planning and Logistics:
Maintain internal and external events calendars
Partner with College Counselors to coordinate events: Financial Aid Night, College Kickstart, Road to College, Coffee with the Counselors, College Fairs
Actively participate and present at events such as rep visits, College Kickstart, and Road to College.
Create rep visits schedule in Scoir
Communicate and coordinate with college representatives
Assist with staffing rep visits: taking attendance and following up with students who cannot attend
Coordinate communications and logistics in regard to special programs such as Girls State, Hoby, Junior Book Awards, Pioneer, and mock SAT/ACT
Maintain scholarship database in Scoir
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Strong understanding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion best practices.
Ability to navigate an environment that is very fast-paced at certain times of the year
Previous work in an academic institution preferred
Experience with educational platforms like Schoology, PowerSchool, and Scoir is a plus
Experience working with adolescents a plus
Interest in learning about colleges and the college admissions/counseling process
Technical/Functional skills
Effective interpersonal skills
Effective communicator, both written and verbal
Excellent attention to detail and organization skills
Strong organizational skills to support a caseload of students
Ability to work as a member of a team
Proficient in digital platforms related to school life
Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms)
