Director of Learning and Instruction
Carondelet High School (About us) is looking for a full-time Director of Learning and Instruction for the 2026-2027 School Year. The Director of Learning and Instruction serves as the primary instructional partner and right hand to the Principal for Academics, providing leadership for teaching, learning, and instructional coherence across the school.
This role blends strategic instructional leadership with essential academic operations, supporting faculty, students, and families while ensuring alignment with the school’s mission, vision, and values. The Director works across departments and in close collaboration with student life and support teams to strengthen the overall learning environment and advance initiatives that support student growth, belonging, and academic integrity.
While the Director does not serve as the primary supervisor of department chairs or faculty, they exercise significant influence through expertise, partnership, and shared leadership.

Core Responsibilities
Strategic Partnership & Academic Leadership

Act as the principal thought partner to the Principal for Academics on matters related to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and faculty growth.

Support the planning, execution, and follow-through of academic initiatives and priorities.

Represent the Principal for Academics in meetings or conversations as appropriate, particularly those related to instructional design, curriculum coherence, or faculty support.

Synthesize instructional data, faculty feedback, and program insights to inform academic decision-making.

Provide candid, professional perspective and recommendations to support continuous improvement of the academic program.
Instructional Leadership & Faculty Support

Serve as a visible instructional leader across campus, supporting high-quality, research-based, student-centered teaching practices.

Coach and support teachers through observation, feedback, modeling, and collaborative reflection.

Partner with department chairs to strengthen instructional coherence, vertical alignment, and curricular consistency.

Support teachers in complex instructional or parent-facing situations related to teaching and learning.
Curriculum, Syllabi & Assessment Oversight

Oversee curriculum coherence and alignment across departments, ensuring rigor, clarity, and alignment with graduation requirements and academic vision.

Review course syllabi as part of curriculum alignment and instructional support, providing feedback focused on learning goals, assessment design, and student experience.

Support departments in the development and refinement of assessments, performance tasks, and common instructional expectations.

Collaborate on interdisciplinary and skills-based learning initiatives as appropriate.
Faculty Growth & Goal-Setting (Portfolio Process)

Partner with the Principal for Academics and Director of Educational Technology in the Faculty Goal Document (portfolio) process.

Support faculty in setting meaningful instructional goals and reflecting on professional growth.

Contribute instructional insight to evaluation conversations within a shared leadership model.
Academic Integrity & Learning Culture

Oversee the school’s academic integrity framework through an instructional and learning-centered lens.

Partner with faculty to strengthen instructional practices and assessment design that reduce incentives for academic dishonesty.
-
Support meetings with students and families related to academic integrity, emphasizing growth, accountability, and restoration.

Collaborate with academic leadership to ensure consistent expectations and responses around academic integrity.
Hiring & Faculty Recruitment (Instructional Lens)

Partner with Human Resources and academic leadership in launching faculty searches.

Review applications and resumes through an instructional and curricular lens.

Participate in first-round candidate screening and interviews, particularly around pedagogy and classroom practice.

Provide instructional perspective to hiring decisions without owning HR processes.
Cross-Department Collaboration & Student Experience

Work collaboratively across academic departments, student life, and learning support teams to strengthen the overall learning environment.

Partner with student life leadership to align academic initiatives with student development, wellness, belonging, and school culture.

Contribute to school-wide initiatives that advance the mission and vision of the school and support the holistic development of students.

Serve as a bridge between instructional priorities and broader student experiences, ensuring coherence across the academic and co-curricular program.
Family & Student Partnership

Support teachers and administrators in meetings with students and families when academic or instructional concerns arise.

Help clarify instructional expectations, academic pathways, and learning supports in complex or high-stakes situations.
Data-Informed Instructional Improvement

Collaborate with academic leadership to analyze instructional and student learning data.

Support faculty and departments in using data meaningfully to improve teaching and learning.

Partner with educational technology leadership to ensure systems and tools support instructional priorities.
Qualifications
Required
-
Advanced degree in education or a related field.
-
Significant secondary classroom teaching experience.
-
Demonstrated success in instructional leadership, coaching, curriculum development, or faculty development.

Strong understanding of pedagogy, assessment, and adult learning.

Ability to build trust, lead with clarity and empathy, and operate with professional judgment and discretion.
Preferred
-
Experience in academic leadership roles in an independent, mission-driven, or faith-based school.

Familiarity with instructional coaching models, curriculum mapping, and portfolio-based evaluation systems.
Work Environment
This is a collaborative, senior-level role requiring visibility in classrooms, active engagement with faculty and students, and close partnership with academic and student life leadership. Occasional evening or weekend commitments may be required for professional learning events or school initiatives.
