Carondelet High School Athletics Director
Carondelet High School, an all-girls Catholic school, seeks an Athletics Director who is deeply committed to promoting and supporting women in athletics. Reporting to the Principal for Student Life and Mission and working with a team of athletic administrators, the Athletics Director oversees all coaches, staff, and operational functions of Carondelet’s athletics programs. This leader brings innovative thinking, strong communication skills, and a vision aligned with the school’s mission. The role also involves media relations and collaboration on strategic initiatives across campus.
Essential Responsibilities

Program and Department Management
-
Develops and implements plans, policies, and procedures that comply with school guidelines and EBAL, NCS, and CIF regulations, while upholding academic excellence and the well-being of student-athletes.

Ensures that coaches and staff actively support both academic achievement and whole-child development for all student-athletes.

Partners with the Director of Facilities to maintain and enhance all athletics facilities.

Collaborates with the Associate Athletics Director to plan and lead all pre-season meetings for coaches and parents/guardians.

Communicates regularly with coaches regarding practice schedules, game logistics, and competition outcomes.

Oversees game management for all home contests and NCS host events, including coordination of gate operations, security, officials, scorekeepers, and spectator supervision. Serves as the liaison to officials’ associations.

Leads the interview and hiring process for prospective coaches.

Works with the Associate Athletics Director to streamline hotel booking, transportation logistics, and expense reconciliation for team travel.

Provides hands-on support by stepping into coaching, supervision, or representation roles as needed across all levels.
Finance and Budget Management

Submits reports, recommendations, and supporting documentation to the Principal and President to inform decisions on goals, academics, capital expansion, staffing, budgeting, scheduling, and other program matters.

Leads long-term planning for both operational and capital needs, while setting internal goals to strengthen the Athletics Department.

Develops budget guidelines, approves appropriations, and ensures adherence to budget parameters.

Oversees all Athletics Department fiscal operations—partnering with the CFO—to ensure sound financial and facilities management.

Prepares and processes payment requests for department purchases and services.

Collaborates with the Controller to investigate and resolve billing or invoice discrepancies.
Communication
-
Maintains open and effective communication with students, faculty, administrators, alumni, and supporters of the school.

Coordinates the preparation of quarterly board reports outlining the current status and future direction of the athletics program.

Partners with the Director of Marketing and Communication to respond to media requests and issue press releases for key events and achievements, for both internal and external publications (e.g., Carondeletter, local news).

Maintains a strong, relevant online presence for Carondelet Athletics through the school website and social media.
-
Partners with the MarCom team to promote athletics through e-newsletters, social media, and stakeholder outreach.
External Operations

Represents Carondelet at bi-monthly league meetings, votes on legislative matters, and serves on league and section committees as needed. Leads league sports meetings when required.

Fulfills all annual NCS/CIF reporting obligations, including postseason applications.

Leads the recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of all coaches to promote athletic excellence at the local, league, and national levels.

Develops and implements revenue-generating initiatives, including marketing, promotions, and fundraising strategies to support the Athletics Department.

Serves as the primary departmental spokesperson, advancing the mission and philosophy of Carondelet Athletics in public-facing roles with faculty, staff, students, alumni, media, and the broader community.

Maintains a consistent and visible presence across all sports by attending a representative number of home contests, ensuring that families feel supported and that protocols are followed. Increases presence for teams advancing to postseason play or when additional oversight is needed.

Acts as a positive liaison with the local neighborhood, responding to community concerns professionally and proactively.

Collaborates with the Development Team to expand corporate sponsorship opportunities, with clear deliverables and a review process to assess impact.

Supports the design and growth of engaging summer sports clinics.
Student-Athlete Experience and Support

Distributes end-of-season evaluations to student-athletes and conducts follow-up conversations to gather feedback and identify program improvements.

Provides guidance to coaches, parents, and student-athletes on athletics-related concerns.

Partners with the College & Career team to deliver workshops and informational sessions on collegiate recruitment and athletic eligibility.

Coordinates the NCS/CIF transfer process for incoming students, ensuring accurate completion of forms, and signs off on outgoing transfer applications.

Oversees the development and implementation of student-athlete leadership and sportsmanship programming.
Department Leadership and Operations
-
Leads the Athletics Department and supervises all staff, including conducting annual evaluations.

Oversees the annual review and revision of the Student-Athlete Handbook.

Plans and executes major departmental events such as College Commitment Celebrations and seasonal parent meetings.

Provides oversight for each sport by managing and supporting coaches directly.

Approves all athletics-related employee contracts—including coaches, trainers, and administrative staff—in coordination with the Director of Human Resources, and ensures completion of all HR and CIF compliance requirements.

Evaluates all coaches and contractors to ensure alignment with Carondelet’s mission and program standards.

Oversees athletic scheduling and game management across all teams.

Maintains archives of records, statistics, narratives, and photographs from athletic events.

Establishes and refines the department’s organizational structure to optimize staff management and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
-
5–7 years of experience in sports management, sports information, or business management
-
Experience managing sports facilities or complexes
-
Coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred
-
Strong knowledge of high school athletics and best practices for building and sustaining successful, competitive programs

Understanding of the unique needs of women athletes and the secondary school environment

Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed
