The Senior Buyer, (Pier 1) oversees and maintains inventory as well as researches, analyzes, and forecasts current and future buying trends, markets, styles, and products with attention to specified target market and demographics. This role develops and maintains relationships with wholesalers and suppliers while leading negotiation of contracts with wholesalers and suppliers. The Senior Buyer for Pier 1 should understand the home goods industry trends as well as be informed of the latest design trends that support the curation of our product assortments.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Qualifies and negotiates with vendors to find the best sales price and may include bid prices and negotiation techniques, plus review of written documents 

  • Acquires information concerning an item’s condition, type, rarity or value 

  • Prepares data for financial records: invoices, purchase orders and other related documents 

  • Performs financial analysis to determine savings, calculates quantity discounts and negotiates the best sales price when purchasing large quantities of goods 

  • Arranges payments through bank drafts or money orders to purchase items 

  • Maintains inventory that includes verifying inventory levels, choosing new items, returning expired items or obsolete merchandise  

  • Tracks purchases, monitors vendor quality, and maintains a current database of vendor information 

  • Negotiate contracts with suppliers to secure favorable terms, including pricing, delivery schedules, and quality specifications. 

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies aligned with the company’s business goals and operational needs 

  • Maintain commercial contracts with clients, suppliers, and other business partners 

  • Research and evaluate suppliers, considering factors such as quality, pricing, and market trends. 

  • Analyze market trends, ensuring the organization gets the best value for its purchases 

  • Implement strategies for procuring, storing, and distributing goods and services 

  • Oversee financial analyses related to the department’s budget  

  • Manage procurement activities, including purchasing supplies and communicating company specifications to suppliers 

  • Ensure the company complies with legal, regulatory, and ethical requirements including pertinent regulatory bodies 

  • Evaluate departmental policies and procedures to ensure alignment with industry standards and changes in law or technology 

  • Participate in cross-functional projects aimed at improving efficiency, profitability, quality, and customer service 

  • Collaborate with other senior team members to analyze potential problems impacting work 

  • Recommend improvements, new products, quality enhancements, or operational efficiencies 

  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks based on urgency 

  • Stays on top of trends in terms of supplement innovation and industry demand  

Qualifications: 

  • 5-7 years' experience as a Buyer/ Senior Buyer, preferably in home goods 

  • Retail/eCommerce company experience strongly preferred 

  • Experience in interior design and/or home goods consumer products strongly preferred 

  • Undergraduate degree and other specialized degree highly preferred
