Job Description

The Performance Engineer will be responsible for supporting design optimization, and project development, as well as on-going performance optimization for a fleet of PV and Wind assets throughout the USA. The role will be part of the Technical Operations team and will report directly to the Manager of Performance and Engineering. At a high level, the Performance Engineer will be responsible for:

• Maximizing performance of assets through analytics and engineering.

• Work with subcontractors to review SCADA and MET station design and integration efforts.

• Lead the implementation of monitoring software to capture project data and perform detailed analysis & reporting.

• Aiding in the technical due-diligence process for potential acquisitions.

• Reviewing technical documents and acceptance test during the project handover process.

• Supporting Project Development team and subcontractors to review / optimize project subsystem designs.

• Identifying and driving performance improvement opportunities via:

           – Technical Management of Wind, Solar and Battery Storage assets 

           – Technical optimization analyses of asset portfolios

           – Develop, implement, and improve methods for detecting, reporting and analyzing performance issues

           – Identify areas of underperformance, drive improvements and corrective actions via management of third party contractors 

           – Experience in wind or solar performance management/optimization preferred

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

This position will perform a wide range of performance engineering duties including:

• Utilize advanced monitoring and analytics software systems to track the performance of a large fleet of Solar and Wind assets. 

• Review time-series data sets to track and analyze the performance of wind and solar systems. 

• Work with subcontractors to pinpoint failures and ensure efficient and effective resolutions. 

• Utilize industry standard Solar modeling software to develop and validate performance models. 

• Support Project Development, Procurement and Finance teams to review and optimize solar subsystem designs. 

• Perform due diligence tasks as needed to support the acquisition of Solar and Wind assets. 

• Review acceptance test and other technical items in the project handover process. 

• Work with O&M subcontractors to pinpoint performance deficiencies and resolve failures efficiently and effectively. 

• Identify opportunities for operational cost reductions and performance optimization.

Experience Requirements

• Combination of 2 - 3 years of relevant work experience in engineering, physics, or statistical modeling or other relevant mathematical sciences preferred. 

• Superior academic performance with focus on Renewable Energy Systems or statistical modeling in lieu of work experience will be considered. 

• Knowledge of SCADA systems and subsystem electrical components, basic networking equipment, and standard communications protocols. 

• Familiarity with substation design and equipment is preferred. 

• Familiarity with battery management systems is a plus. 

• Familiarity with industry standard PV modeling software (PVSyst, Plant Predict, Helioscope…etc) is preferred. 

• Proven track record of working well within a team environment, taking ownership of processes and procedures, experience in shared services center environment is helpful. 

• Excellent interpersonal skills, highly motivated and results oriented, process oriented with strong organizational and communication skills. 

• Proficient on MS Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, SQL, etc.

• Familiarity with software languages and data analysis platforms (Python, VBA, C++, Matlab, Power BI, Pentaho, Plateau, etc) is a plus.

Education Requirements

• 4 year degree in an Engineering or Mathematical Sciences required. 

• 2 - 3 years of broad-based power systems engineering and / or Data Science experience. 

• Prior experience with Renewable Energy performance modelling and monitoring systems preferred.
