Position Summary:

Pinao is seeking  Data Abstractors to perform comprehensive reviews of ocular medical encounters and concurrent chart data abstraction on all required clinical indicators for assigned patient groups to determine data to be abstracted based on the analysis/study to be performed.  Assigned patient groups will be determined based on specific studies as directed by the Government. The data from DVEIVR shall be used to establish mechanisms to identify and longitudinally track data and assess eye related injuries and diseases of service members and Veterans.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and accurately abstract and enter required data into a large, complex database / registry or provide the data to the Government in another format.
  • Achieve and maintain a 98% accuracy of reviewed and manually entered data.
  • Support specific studies including locating relevant encounters from various DoD and VA medical sources and performing data abstraction of identified cohorts.
  • Complete directed data abstraction for multiple studies per quarter and deliver a report documenting the results for each study.
  • Identify and report bugs and other software anomalies with the software.
  • Collaborate and support the project manager, developers, and end users to ensure application designs meet business requirements.
  • Resolve disparate data terms between and among DVEIVR, medical records, and other DoD and VA medical systems.


Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; OR three to four years related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of training and clinical experience.
  • Clinical or research experience in the field of medical data abstraction is required.
  • Experience with medical records, data abstraction, chart audit, or coding is required.
  • Data entry/computer experience and strong typing skills required.

 

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Comfortable with doing self-checks and corrections on own work.
  • Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written form.
  • Excellent critical thinking, organizational and time management skills mandatory.
  • Flexibility in coping with changing work assignments, changing project requirements, varying training meeting schedules, and database resources that may not always function optimally.
  • Computer skills are required, as 90% of work activity involves working with a computer. Comfort with technology, and willingness to learn new software programs is highly desirable.
  • Ability to make independent judgments in abstracting medical data and the knowledge of when to seek input from other staff.
  • Ability to cope with incomplete medical record data and use problem solving techniques to find required information.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, climb or balance, stoop or crouch, hand/wrist use, talk, see, and hear for extended periods of time.
  • Ocular Experience REQUIRED: Preference or Ocular Technicians, Residents, Ophthalmologist, Optometrist, and related fields.

Security Clearance:  DoD Security Clearance is required or the ability to acquire one.
