Reporting to the Director of Career Services, The Clean Energy Specialist (CES) is responsible for leading our alumni community to make significant strides within the clean energy sector. Key to that is aligning on opportunities to strengthen the Corps Member Service Corps experience and sharing feedback on potential infrastructure upgrades at our service sites to showcase clean energy technologies and developing opportunities for our alumni to be competitive in the sector.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The CES is a member of the Career Services Team but works collaboratively across programs team to support our comprehensive model
Training:

Recommend and implement training opportunities to strengthen GCFs Service to Sector model, specifically in the clean energy sector, where participants engaging in training are exposed and trained in potential career paths through service and can see themselves in that work

Manage technical training of staff, Corps Members, and Alumni Temporary Employees for all energy-related projects

Lead advanced energy training for alumni seeking energy career-related upskilling

Identify, implement and facilitate clean energy-related general NYCHA residents as part of GCF’s multi-stakeholder sectoral initiatives

In partnership with the Service Operations team: assess, plan for, and execute on upgrades to our Eco-Hub sites, improving GCF’s energy efficiency while also helping Corps Members actively practice their skills in real-time

In collaboration with Sectoral Training Manager, support the planning and coordination of Service Corps field trips to clean energy-related job sites, training centers, and local green businesses
Job Exploration:

In partnership with the Alumni Retention Manager, guide energy-interested alumni through career exploration, job search, and employment retention opportunities related to a clean energy career pathway

Assist alumni with workplace navigation and basic career coaching
Communication, Data and Reporting

Provide content for communications for recruitment and engagement with alumni that is specific to clean energy training and job opportunities

Generate content for internal and external reports

Collect and maintain accurate data related to clean energy initiatives and outcomes
Partnership Management

Manage partner relationships related to training and exposure

Support job placement objectives that may include placements of non-GCF alumni

Coordinate with the Sectoral Business Developer on cultivating new partnerships for placements
Cross Team Collaboration:

Work in close coordination with the Service Corps team, Social Enterprise, and Career Services colleagues to meet graduation, placement, and retention goals, as well as to ensure a seamless, positive experience for each participant

Provide coverage and support during program activities; participate in participant activities and other special events
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

3 - 4 years of relevant work experience with energy efficiency, renewable, or other emerging industry experience and/ or credentials

If less work experience, a Bachelor’s degree or an Associate’s Degree is preferred

Clean-energy related instructor credentials preferred but not required; willingness to obtain sector-relevant credentials that support GCF training portfolio required

Track record of creating and implementing new project plans

Demonstrated ability to work with staff at a variety of levels and to coordinate multiple stakeholders and projects

Experience working with young adult and/or frontline communities preferred

Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills

Ability to plan, manage time and multitask effectively

Motivated self-learner with exceptional problem-solving and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Excellent computer skills, including Google Suite, Microsoft Word, and Excel

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
Green City Force (GCF) is in its second decade having celebrated over 20 cohorts of our award-winning AmeriCorps program. Green City Force (GCF) engages young adults from New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) communities in service years related to the environment. In doing so, we prepare them for sustainable careers, while serving to make public housing communities more sustainable and healthier, creating the green city we want to see.
Our 600+ graduates are working in all areas of the green economy, from energy efficiency to composting, and construction to hydroponic farming. A recent report documents the multiple benefits of GCF’s holistic model, through which young adults in public housing grow change in their communities and their own lives.
