OVERVIEW

The Career Service Manager ensures that  Green City Force (GCF)  Corps Members and alumni develop the skills and have access to continuous opportunities that prepare them for placement and advancement in sustainable careers.  They work  across programs and within their Career Services team to ensure that GCF graduates and alumni receive effective career placement support, with access to wrap-around services needed to support career mobility, as well as short and long-term retention. They also collaborate on GCF alumni and employment initiatives, cultivate and support community and employment partnerships, and represent GCF at relevant events and activities, in furtherance of our mission to ensure long-term graduate success.  

The Career Services Manager is part of the Career Services Team. They report directly to the Director of Career Services and supervise the Alumni Engagement Coordinator and Career Services Social Work Apprentices (interns who support access to wrap-around services). 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Service Corps 

  • Oversee Career Services support of program participants during cohort and transition to alumnihood in their next steps after graduation

  • Provide direct coaching and feedback that reinforces professional expectations for Corps Members and alumni, in service and during professional development and networking opportunities

  • Lead Green City Academy planning and coordination, working across programs, ensuring the integrity of Service Corps career goals

  • Support the ongoing leadership and professional development of Eco-Hub fellows - second-term AmeriCorps members - by working with the Senior Service Coordinator, Program and Partnerships to define those program elements 

  • Work collaboratively with the Career Services team and the Director of Sectoral Business Development to manage employer partnerships related to positive job placement, retention, and career advancement

  • Work collaboratively with the Sectoral Training Manager to promote sectoral training and employment opportunities that support GCF alumni in their career development


Alumni Engagement 

Since our start in 2009, GCF has engaged 784 Corps Members in total, with a growing network of nearly 600 alumni.

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Sectoral Business Development and Career Services team to support strong feedback loops that enhance alumni retention and advancement

  • Work collaboratively with the Sectoral Training Manager to plan and host training for program alumni and support the strategic development and oversight of alumni networking and skill-building. 

  • Support alumni networking and advancement with regular opportunities to connect to training and upskilling through GCF and our partners

  • Provide career coaching for alumni actively seeking to retain or advance their employment

  • Work in close coordination with the other program team members to meet  graduation, placement, and retention targets, and to ensure a seamless, positive experience for each participant


SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • 3 - 4 years of relevant work experience (preference for experience in workforce development, job placement, and/ or career exploration)

  • If less work experience, a Bachelor’s degree or an Associate’s Degree is preferred 

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills

  • Supervisory experience preferred but not required

  • Demonstrated ability to work with staff at a variety of levels and to coordinate multiple stakeholders and projects

  • Motivated self-learner with exceptional problem-solving and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment 

  • Excellent computer skills, including Google Suite, Microsoft Word, and Excel

  • Ability to multi-task with strong organizational and time management skills

  • Experience working with young adults and or frontline communities preferred 

  • Commitment to cultural diversity and equity
