OVERVIEW

The Sectoral Training Manager is responsible for managing Green City Force’s training opportunities for 100+ annual service corps to upskill alumni. They ensure that Green City Force (GCF) Corps Members and alumni develop the skills and have access to continuous learning opportunities that prepare them for placement and advancements in sustainable careers. They oversee Corps Memberoom-based environmental literacy through Green City Academy, help design energy-related service projects, connect alumni to sectoral training opportunities, establish training and employer partnerships, guide the talent pipeline, and support on-site career coaching efforts.

The Sectoral Training Manager works closely with the Director of Sectoral Business Development and the Social Enterprise team, they are under the direct supervision of the Director of Career Service and work collaboratively to maintain alignment from service to alumni hood. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage service-to-sector preparation by codifying and managing trainings across programs and when necessary, enhance existing sustainability and energy sector curriculum

    • This includes providing feedback and collaborating across programs on materials used and presented in recruitment, orientation, and Green City Academy

  • Facilitate relevant to environmental literacy, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other relevant emerging sectoral career paths at Green City Academy and in alumni bootcamps

  • Manage technical training of staff, Corp Members, and Alumni Temporary Employees for all energy-related projects

  • Work with the Director of Career Services and the People Operations and Administration (PAO) team,  to support the development and facilitation of GCF-central training opportunities that strengthen sectoral alignment, and positive coordination, and increase recruitment, retention, and placement outcomes

  • Manage existing training partnerships and establishes training partnerships aligned with GCF’s sectoral employment strategy

  • Manage Energy in Service learning opportunities which may include coordinating with relevant partners like the New York City Housing Authority’s Sustainability team and ensuring productive experiences for Corps Members. Develop similar opportunities with existing and new partners when it improves Corps Member preparation

  • Support the ongoing leadership and professional development of Eco-Hub fellows - second-term AmeriCorps members - by working with the Senior Program Coordinator to define those program elements and support codification 

  • Supporting communications with the GCF alumni body with regard to sectoral training and job opportunities, leveraging and coordinating with the Career Services team to maintain alignment 

  • Assist in and provide feedback to Career Services tea’s support of Corps Member and alumni placement opportunities - transition into alumni hood and next steps after graduation 

  • Support the planning and coordination of Service Corps field trips to job sites, training centers, and local green businesses

  • Work with program leadership to define training pathways for graduates, with a minimum of one training or certification and one training partner identified for each of 6  green economy sub-sectors: Green Construction, Energy Efficiency, Urban Agriculture,  Green Infrastructure, Zero Waste, and Community Health

  • Work in close coordination with the Service Corps team, Social Enterprise, and Career Services colleagues to meet graduation, placement, and retention goals, as well as to ensure a seamless, positive experience for each participant

  • Work with the Career Services & Service teams to continually improve the program and participant outcomes

  • Plan and host training for program alumni; supporting in opportunity outreach to alumni with the goal of sustained engagement

  • Provide coverage and support during program activities; participating in alumni gatherings and other special events

  • Other responsibilities as required, including the creation of Individual Development Plans (IDPs) with active Corps Members, assisting alumni with workplace navigation and basic career coaching, supporting aspects of Service Corps recruitment, and other tasks as needed


SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • 3 - 4 years of relevant work experience with industry credentials 

  • If less work experience, a Bachelor’s degree or an Associate’s Degree is preferred 

  • Prior experience leadingoom-based instruction or training in related areas

  • Excellent facilitation skills and experience leading and writing sectoral curriculum 

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to plan, manage time and multitask effectively

  • GPRO Instructor credentials preferred but not required; willingness to obtain sector-relevant credentials that support GCF training portfolio

  • Demonstrated ability to work with staff at a variety of levels and to coordinate multiple stakeholders and projects

  • Motivated self-learner with exceptional problem-solving and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment 

  • Excellent computer skills, including Google Suite, Microsoft Word, and Excel

  • Experience working with young adults and or frontline communities preferred 

  • Commitment to cultural diversity and equity
