DuBois Integrity Academy (DIA) is hiring a (K-8) Assistant Social Worker for the 2026-2027 school year. DuBois Integrity STEM Academy’s academic program has two pillars that support substantial improvement in achievement: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) combined with Blended Learning. We use theme-based, interdisciplinary, integrated curricula to facilitate instruction and learning. A combination of tightly controlled behavioral studies and groundbreaking neurological research supports theme-based education as a means to improve opportunities for success for all learners.
Position Summary
The Assistant School Social Worker works closely with the Director of Social Work to support student success by addressing barriers to learning, such as chronic absenteeism, behavioral issues, and family crises. Key duties include conducting home visits, connecting families with community resources, assisting with McKinney-Vento (homelessness) cases, and providing crisis intervention. The Assistant School Social Worker also promotes and supports a positive school climate and culture and collaborates to restore communication between the home, the school, and the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Case Management & Attendance: Assist with truancy cases by conducting home visits and collaborating with families to ensure compliance with Georgia’s compulsory attendance laws.
- Family Support & Resources: Serve as a liaison between the school and community to connect families with resources for housing, food, and mental health needs.
- Crisis Intervention: Support students in crisis by assisting with de-escalation, safety planning, and facilitating referrals to the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS).
- Program Implementation: Assist in implementing social-emotional learning (SEL) programs and restorative practices to improve school climate.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of interventions in systems such as SWARM (Social Worker Activity Referral Module).
Essential Duties - Work closely with the Director of Social Work to:
- Connect students and families with available community resources to fully develop each person’s individual potential.
- Implement programs for students and families addressing interpersonal adjustment issues.
- Work with school teams to identify and help families access school and community resources, to remove barriers to attendance and academic success.
- Participate in developing crisis prevention and management plans for the school.
- Coordinate with teachers to help identify students who are “at risk” or “in crisis” in grades K-8.
- Report and refer critical incidents that jeopardize student well-being as obligated by law, administrative regulations, or ethical standards.
- Stay abreast of all state regulations relating to incident reporting and documentation.
- Support professional development activities for teachers and school staff members.
- Work as part of the IEP team to develop social goals and provide virtual social work services to help the student achieve them.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Social Work and the Leadership team (as appropriate)
- Will play an integral role in various drives, charitable giving, and the launch of district-wide programs.
- Assist in promoting or organizing training for staff, such as Mandated Reporter Training, Mental Health, First Aid, and/or comparable programs during (and throughout the school year).
- Aid in social work annual audit data and state reporting components
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work (BSW/MSW) is typically required.
- Certification: Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission Certification.
- Skills: Knowledge of state laws regarding child abuse/neglect, strong communication, and ability to work in a team with counselors and administrators
- Physical Activities: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Written and oral communication, planning, and organization.
- Clearance: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Background Clearance
