Job Overview:

As the AVP of Pricing, you have overall enterprise responsibility for all pricing analytics and financial modeling team activities and will be the primary point of contact on all related work requests.  This position is responsible for execution of go-to-market pricing strategies, developing, updating and automating analysis models, working with the internal technical teams to automate these processes, developing analysis of trends, and delivering reporting to internal and external stakeholders. 

Responsibilities:

As AVP or pricing your key responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Pricing Leadership
    • Lead competitive analysis and market benchmarking to inform pricing decisions.
    • Guide strategic pricing and contracting for client bids and renewals.
    • Provide forecasting, reporting, and analytical support to senior management for strategic planning
    • Enhance financial models and streamline operational processes for greater accuracy and efficiency.
    • Develop and refine pricing models for drug formularies, rebates, and pharmacy networks.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Partner with Finance to model the financial impact of pricing changes and ensure accurate forecasting.
    • Work with Product, Sales, and Marketing teams to align pricing with customer acquisition and retention goals.
    • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure pricing adheres to federal and state regulations.
    • Analyze pharmacy claims, drug pricing, rebate models, and utilization trends for internal teams and client reporting.
    • Interpret complex pharmacy benefit structures and clearly communicate findings to varied audiences
    • Provide ad hoc reports and financial models tailored to business needs.
    • Quantify and validate custom program value for clients and prospects
  • Operational Excellence
    • Implement pricing tools and systems to support scalable growth and dynamic pricing.
    • Monitor pricing effectiveness and adjust strategies based on performance metrics and market feedback.
    • Oversee rebate and discount structures to optimize cost savings while maintaining quality.
  • Leadership & Innovation
    • Lead representatives of underwriting team, among other relevant staff
    • Promote continuous improvement and innovation in pricing methodologies.
    • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies

Capabilities:

  • Proficient in collecting and extracting relevant data from various sources, including pharmacy insurance claims databases. Skilled in utilizing data analysis tools and techniques to identify trends, patterns, and insights that contribute to informed decision-making.
  • Ability to assess and quantify risk factors associated with PBM contracts and pricing strategies. Proficiency in identifying potential financial risks and proposing mitigation strategies.
  • Strong aptitude for building complex financial models to simulate different scenarios, pricing structures, and underwriting outcomes. Expertise in using modeling software and spreadsheet applications for accurate financial projections.
  • In-depth understanding of the intricate details and terminology commonly found in PBM contracts. Proficient in reviewing, interpreting, and negotiating contract terms to optimize financial outcomes and minimize potential liabilities.
  • Familiarity with statistical methods and techniques for evaluating data significance and drawing meaningful conclusions.
  • Capable of performing statistical analyses to support underwriting and pricing decisions; very comfortable working with pharmacy claims and performance data in particular
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex financial concepts and analysis results in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Comfortable presenting findings to both internal and external stakeholders, moving between more complex and simpler terminology, depending upon audience
  • Keen attention to detail when working with financial data, contracts, and documentation. Ensures accuracy and precision in all aspects of underwriting and financial analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, capable of identifying issues, analyzing root causes, and proposing effective solutions. Adaptable in addressing challenges and making data-driven recommendations.
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to PBM operations and healthcare finance. Ensures that underwriting practices align with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Effective teamwork and collaboration skills to work closely with cross-functional teams, including clinical, implementation, and account teams. Capable of integrating financial insights into broader strategic initiatives.
  • A commitment to staying updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in PBM underwriting and financial analysis. Willingness to pursue relevant certifications or professional development opportunities

Qualifications:

To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, statistics, mathematics, economics, or equivalent work experience; master’s degree a plus.
  • 10-15+ years of experience working in or alongside PBM industry (PBM, Health Plan, Advisory Firm)
  • Underwriting experience developing and adhering to cost and risk benefit systems.
  • Detailed subject matter expertise of pharmacy pricing and underwriting processes and best practices
  • Ability to build complex statistical models while incorporating internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate, hands-on leaders who work well with internal stakeholders.
  • High energy and passion; strong drive to find improved solutions within the healthcare space.
  • Knowledge of reporting, data analytics, and problem solving using analytical tools such as Excel, SAS, SQL, Power BI, and/or other ad hoc Query Tools.

 

Education:

Bachelor’s in Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or related field.

MBA, and/or actuarial credentials (FSA/ASA) preferred.
