Position Overview
Join the Energize Capital team to invest in leading climate software companies while generating top-tier returns and enabling sustainable innovation at scale. We are a close-knit team with an entrepreneurial spirit. This role requires flexibility, a diverse skill set, and an ability to perform at a high level on multiple fronts. We are looking for a driven, hardworking, and experienced professional to support our Ventures investment strategy.
The Ventures Investment Associate will report to a Partner or Principal. The candidate will be responsible for thesis research, deal sourcing, investment due diligence, portfolio support and general firm operations.
This is a full-time position located in Chicago. Must be based in Chicago or willing to relocate. Energize Capital is not interested in staffing and recruiting firms reaching out at this time.
Responsibilities
- Drive market research and analysis on emerging sectors related to the energy transition, decarbonization, industrial efficiency and infrastructure resiliency
- Source investment opportunities aligned to the Energize investment thesis
- Support investment due diligence including product and technical due diligence, competitive landscape research, market sizing, financial evaluation, investment underwriting, etc.
- Work with Energize portfolio companies on strategic and operational projects
- Attend conferences and events to develop Energize’s deal pipeline and broader network
- Contribute thought capital through various mediums
Qualifications
The successful candidate will enjoy being an individual contributor within a highly collaborative team. The ability to take risks and challenge investment views is critical. The ideal candidate will recognize the benefits of diverse perspectives and exhibit a desire to learn from others.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to succinctly synthesize and present an argument in a structured manner
- Strong financial analysis skills, including ability to digest a financial model, identify and judge key drivers or risks
- Ability to independently conduct diligence, quickly evaluate key questions, risks, or upside of an opportunity
- Self-motivated with a desire and willingness to learn, give and take feedback, and challenge conventional thinking
- Strong foundation of trustworthiness, ethical responsibility, transparency, credibility, and humility; team-player mindset and excellent at relationship management
Prior Experience
- 2 - 4 years of working experience ideally in principal investing (venture, growth), technology start-ups, investment banking, consulting with a focus on climate or energy transition
- At minimum a Bachelor’s degree
- Demonstrated interest in technology’s application in climate, energy, industry and sustainability
