The Marina Mechanic inspects, maintains, and repair boats of all kinds. Using diagnostic equipment, test and repair boat engines, hulls, propellers, rigging, masts, sails, and navigational equipment. They also install and test sanitation and refrigeration systems, cabinetry, electrical systems, steering gear, and accessories.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:                                                                                                                

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair boats of all kinds
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment to test and repair boat engines, hulls, propellers, rigging, masts, sails, and navigational equipment
  • Install and test sanitation and refrigeration systems, cabinetry, electrical systems, steering gear, and accessories
  • Troubleshoot, test, repair, replace, remove and install vessel systems and components
  • Conduct thorough assessment prior to starting a job including; acknowledging the budgeted time and time frame for completion, proving the system and the element requiring service, sourcing parts if required
  • Overall knowledge of marine systems including electrical, plumbing & water systems
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and install vessel systems and components including but not limited to: electrical, electronics, HVAC, plumbing & water systems (fresh, salt, and waste), gas and diesel engines
  • Assign parts and purchases to the appropriate vessels/tickets
  • Must possess own tools
  • Routinely operate motor and water vehicles and other various mechanized equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory and sanitation policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

 

Required Education and Experience                                                                                                                

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Technical school training preferred
  • 5 years’ experience preferred
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team to achieve goals and targets
  • Reliable with good time management skills and the ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Adaptable to working in a fast-paced environment
  • Must enjoy working outdoors

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to swim
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluation situations and making decisions.
  • General seamanship knowledge, boating right of ways rules, basic navigation, and inshore and offshore mooring techniques.
  • Work tasks may be performed both indoors and outdoors.

  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent walking, reaching, bending, turning, and stooping,
  • Outside work for extended periods of time in various weather conditions.
  • Normal vision and hearing ranges required.
  • Must be comfortable using all dock equipment and materials (gas pump, boats, ropes, anchors, among others)
