Job Placement Coordinator (Bilingual) 

 

ABOUT HOT BREAD KITCHEN 

Hot Bread Kitchen’s mission is to create economic opportunity for women and gender-expansive people, immigrants, and people of color through culinary skills training, high-quality job placement, food entrepreneurship programs, and an ecosystem of support, utilizing New York City’s vibrant food industry as a catalyst for change. Since our founding, we have served 1,800+ members, placed 650+ members in high-quality jobs, and supported 550+ entrepreneurs to launch small food businesses. 

 

Hot Bread Kitchen offers small business development programs, culinary skills training, and job placement, bolstered by individualized wraparound supportive services. Our small business program, HBK Incubates, supports women entrepreneurs of color as they transform their food businesses into sustainable income sources. Culinary fundamentals, our entry-level culinary training provides access to high-quality jobs for those starting their careers in the food industry, while our upskilling offerings enable incumbent workers to gain further skills leading to higher wages and career advancement. We use an ecosystem approach to support our members by working alongside our network of 200+ food employer partners for job placement, and 250+ nonprofit and government partners for member referrals and community engagement.

 

THE OPPORTUNITY

Hot Bread Kitchen’s culinary workforce development programs prepare women and non-binary or gender fluid individuals (members), primarily immigrants and people of color, to succeed in good food jobs with culinary partners across NYC. In 2024, Hot Bread Kitchen expanded our services to support the recently arrived migrant population in New York City with the launch of our Culinary Career Pathways  for New New Yorkers (NNY) program. We are continuing this program in 2025 and seeking a mission-driven, detail-oriented, and organized Job Placement Coordinator who will lead quality and timely job placement activities for the NNY program. This entails conducting one-on-one job matching conversations with each member, communicating with employer partners, coordinating interviews, follow-up communication, and crucial data entry. This position reports directly to the Employer Partnerships Manager on the Programs Team.

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Career Readiness and Job Placement Support

  • Execute key components of the job placement process, including:

    • Conduct one-on-one job-matching conversations with each member to understand key details that will be crucial in finding them the right job.

    • Lead conversations with the Culinary Team and Member Engagement Team to understand the technical skills and strengths of each member, while working to remove barriers to employment.

    • Review job order requirements and identify members who would be a good fit.

    • Create and update member resumes, according to HBK standards.

    • Coordinate and schedule interviews with members.

    • Support members with the onboarding process once they have secured a job.

    • Conduct outreach to members during the first three months of employment to provide support with potential issues and to ensure the submission of logbooks.

    • Send out a weekly job blast with active job opportunities.

    • Responsible for the job placement of 4 NNY cohorts, which can range from 15 to 30 members per cohort, plus 50% of each 4 outpost cohorts, which can range from 15 to 30 members (a total caseload of between 90 and 180).

  • Lead professional readiness lessons, to groups of up to 30 individuals; prepare all professional readiness materials and adjust the curriculum to meet the needs of the cohort. 

  • Facilitate post-graduation job clubs for HBK alumni by taking attendance, sending invitations to graduates, and providing one-on-one support during sessions, including assisting with online job applications, interview preparation, and new hire onboarding documents.

  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager of Culinary Talent and Employer Partnerships Manager to source high-quality job opportunities that align with the needs and career goals of our members.

Employer Partnership Engagement:

  • Support the coordination of field exposure and job placement activities such as employer mock interviews, culinary field trips, job clubs, and partner engagement events.

  • Ensure all critical data, including job opportunities, interview results, and job placements, are accurately and quickly reflected in Salesforce and other trackers.

  • Communicate and flag any issues or concerns that arise throughout the job placement process and/or post-placement to the Manager of Employer Partnerships and Senior Manager of Culinary Talent to help maintain positive relationships with employer partners. 

Additional Program Support:

  • Assist in organizing program interviews, conduct pre-screening assessments to determine whether applicants meet basic eligibility requirements for the Culinary Fundamentals program, and actively participate in the deliberation process.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a minimum of 1 year experience in project management/administration, recruiting and/or job placement work, or direct services.

  • Spanish-speaking proficiency is required, and fluency is preferred.

  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communications.

  • You enjoy working with the community and having first-hand interactions with members.

  • A working understanding of the immigrant population and their barriers to entry into the workforce.

  • Systems and process-oriented; proactive, resourceful, and innovative with an entrepreneurial spirit.

  • Thrives in a fast-paced and energetic team atmosphere with ambitious deadlines; successful team members are self-directed, with effective time management, organizational skills, and ability to simultaneously manage several priorities.

  • General computer proficiency in Google platforms, and productivity software; experience with Salesforce experience a plus.

  • Public Speaking/ Strong Communication Skills - Comfortable leading and facilitating groups of 30 or more.

LOCATION

This position is in-person and requires attendance at our Outpost locations throughout NYC five days a week. Some evening and night hours are required when our evening programs are in session. There is flexibility for hybrid work when programming is not in session. 

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

This is a full-time position. The salary range is $60,000 - $62,400 and is commensurate with experience. You will be eligible for Hot Bread Kitchen's comprehensive benefits package, which includes health/vision/dental insurance (available from day one).
