Position Summary
The Director of Education is a senior leader responsible for building and leading a statewide Holocaust education strategy in advance of HFHEC’s 2027 opening. This role requires a visionary builder—someone who understands that Holocaust education is not only about history, but about shaping citizens.
The Director will design standards-aligned curriculum, establish educator training institutes, build student field trip pipelines across Arizona, and integrate HFHEC’s civic responsibility framework into every program. This leader ensures that visitors leave not only informed, but transformed.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Education will collaborate with exhibit designers, scholars, community leaders, and school districts to embed rigorous pedagogy and moral clarity into the Center’s educational infrastructure.
Strategic Leadership

Develop and execute a comprehensive pre-opening and post-opening education strategy.

Position HFHEC as Arizona’s central hub for Holocaust and antisemitism education.

Represent education priorities in board discussions and statewide partnerships.

Advocate for Holocaust education as foundational to democratic literacy.

Integrate self-reflection, bias awareness, and civic responsibility into program design.
Program & Curriculum Development

Design inquiry-based curriculum aligned with Arizona and national standards.

Create pre-visit and post-visit materials for educators.

Develop differentiated learning tracks for public, private, rural, charter, and homeschool communities.

Launch youth leadership and teen ambassador programs.

Build summer, break, and community-based learning initiatives.
Educator & Statewide Engagement

Lead multi-day teacher institutes and professional development programs.

Build partnerships with districts, universities, and civic organizations.

Represent HFHEC at regional and national conferences.

Establish measurable educator networks across Arizona.

Some travel will be required.
Exhibit & Content Integration

Collaborate with exhibit designers to ensure pedagogical alignment.

Review scripts and media content for historical rigor and age-appropriate layering.

Ensure that survivor testimony and immersive experiences translate into actionable learning.
Measurement & Impact

Develop clear learning outcomes and evaluation frameworks.

Track participation data and statewide reach.

Use evaluation to inform continuous improvement and donor reporting.
Team Leadership

Supervise education staff and consultants.

Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and mission alignment.

Work cross-departmentally with Development, Marketing, and Operations to align fundraising and programmatic priorities.
Qualifications

7–10 years of experience in Holocaust or museum education.

Graduate degree in education, history, Holocaust studies, or related field.

Deep content knowledge of Holocaust history and contemporary antisemitism.

Demonstrated leadership and curriculum design experience.

Strong public speaking and partnership-building skills.

Entrepreneurial mindset suited for a startup institution.
