Amani Public Charter School is a stand alone middle school for grades 5-8, located in Mount Vernon, NY. The mission of the Amani Public Charter School is to provide Mount Vernon, New York students in the 5th through 8th grades with the academic skills necessary to succeed in competitive high school programs, college and the career of their choice. Since Amani opened its doors in 2010, it has provided the Mount Vernon community with the option of School Choice.

About the Role
The ELL Specialist will provide new language development instruction to multilingual children, as well as create and provide tools, resources, technical assistance, and training to faculty, ultimately ensuring that AJLA has the support necessary to increase the English language proficiency and achievement of English Language Learners.
Responsibilities
Evaluates student progress on a regular basis and prepares progress reports
Participates in the assessment of the English proficiency of pupils whose native language is other than English; helps to identify scholars eligible for bilingual education and/or English as a Second Language programs or other services designed to improve English language proficiency
Identifies academic and support services needs of ELLs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and resolving learning problems
Provides individual, small, and/or large group instruction, whenever appropriate, in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of scholars with varying intellectual and special abilities
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide and orderly and productive environment
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree (Advanced educational preparation in the area of ESL preferred); Master's Degree preferred
Knowledge and understanding of ESL instruction and second language acquisition
Experience supporting bilingual/bicultural students with disabilities
Bi- and multilingual candidates preferred.
