The mission of the Hector and Gloria López Foundation (HGLF) is to provide post-secondary educational opportunities for students in Texas, specifically students from El Paso, Austin, San Antonio, South Texas, and the Rio Grande Valley. We invest in scholarships and support for students who will be the first in their family to graduate from college or university and are financially under-resourced in their ability to pay for higher education. Overview of the López Foundation Philanthropy Team


The Philanthropy Team works with colleges, universities, and nonprofits that are intentional and strategic in how they support first-generation students on their academic path and provide guidance toward economic opportunity.  Our college and university partners are four-year, both public and private, and are located in the five HGLF priority regions. Funding primarily supports undergraduate scholarships and student success services for a cohort of López Scholars, bearing the name of the founders, as well as strategic partnerships with non-profit organizations that support the HGLF mission. 


The Program Associate will be an integral part of the philanthropy team, ensuring that all López Scholars are connected to short and long term career opportunities through, but not limited to, campus career centers, professional networking, employer partnerships, and are engaged as López Scholar alumni after graduation. 


This individual contributor position will report directly to the Foundation’s Student Success Officer  and will work closely with other members of the Philanthropy and Foundation team. 


Program Associate Responsibilities:



  • Support López Scholar career development initiatives in partnership with HGLF university partners and third party organizations to ensure Scholars are placed on a path to high-quality jobs after graduation. 

  • Manage and track Lopez Scholars career and alumni related data to inform continuous improvement of services and partnerships. 

  • Support the development and implementation of the López Scholar alumni network, including alumni engagement for existing and future graduates.

  • Strengthen HGLF university partnerships by analyzing data, conducting research, supporting administrative functions, attending university events, and managing scholar support initiatives.

  • Strengthen López Scholars by implementing academic, leadership, and student success initiatives that enhance outcomes for all López Scholars.


Preferred Skills/Abilities:  



  • Experience in Career Services, Alumni engagement and other relevant student success departments.
    Strong research and synthesis skills, with the ability to translate a large amount of information from various sources into actionable information for decision making. 

  • Excellent project management skills and the ability  to track multiple timelines and deadlines on various projects. 

  • Extensive understanding of first-generation, student needs either through lived experience or research on the unique educational needs of first-generation and low-income students.

  • Desire to continuously improve processes and procedures towards more effectively delivering support to students we serve. 

  • Flexible and open to change while holding self and others accountable for high- quality performance.


Education and Experience:



  • 1-3 or more years of full-time related experience. 

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Previous experience in career services (public or private) and/or a 4 year college or university a plus.  


Additional Information


The position is full-time and requires that the person be based in Austin, TX.  The Foundation offices are located in downtown Austin, Texas. The Foundation maintains a hybrid work schedule with staff in the office two days a week. The role requires 20% travel primarily within Texas to HGLF partner universities and colleges. The salary for this position ranges from $60K-$65K, with exact salary depending on experience.
