Job Summary

Our mission is to deliver the undeliverable.

We are a venture-backed disruptive Machine Learning/AI therapeutics company focused on revolutionizing drug delivery. The Scientist will work in a fast-paced start-up environment playing a crucial technical role in synthesizing polymer of a range of different types for applications in gene delivery. The candidate will work with senior leadership and partner projects gaining broad internal and external exposure.

Essential Functions and Duties

·         Perform routine synthetic operations of controlled polymer synthesis (e.g., reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization, atom transfer radical polymerization, ring-opening polymerization, etc.), post-polymerization functionalization (e.g., radical/nucleophilic thiol addition, amidation reactions, etc.), and materials characterization of purified macromolecules (e.g., size-exclusion chromatography, NMR + IR spectroscopy, GPC, GC-MS, etc.).

·         Develop systematic libraries of multi-functional self-assemblies that tailor polymeric materials of various lengths, monomeric building blocks, microstructures, architectures, and responsivity with biologics into new therapeutic applications.

·         Perform solution-state characterization of polymeric assemblies with microscopic imaging and light scattering tools, as well as standard biological encapsulation/release assays.

·         Assist with streamlining data collection, management, and storage of large datasets into a sustainable, growing data architecture in an agile manner.

·         Collaborate with team members in the Bio-assay and ML/AI groups to rapidly synthesize polymers based on feature specifications.

·         Prepare project reports and give presentations to internal and external stakeholders.

·         Generate, analyze, and record high quality data and work with fellow team members to transfer data to ML/AI group.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry or related discipline.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·         Strong working knowledge in polymer synthesis and characterization techniques.

·         Familiarity with synthesis of targeting moieties (e.g., small-molecules, peptides, antibodies, carbohydrates, etc.) and bioconjugation.

  • Ability to adapt and contribute in a rapidly growing organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be comfortable with external partner/stakeholder interactions.

Additional Preferred Experience (desired, but not essential):

·         Experience in an industry setting.

·         Experience with micelles, liposomes, and lipids.

·         Experience in working with computational techniques for polymer design.

·         Experience with laboratory automation.

Working Conditions

This is a 100% on site, at the bench laboratory role.
