About the Position

This is a paid contractor position reporting to the Director of Client Services. The On-Call Advocate responds to after-hours crisis calls, provides immediate support and emergency referrals, and offers in-person assistance when needed. The ideal candidate has experience in crisis response and trauma-informed care and can remain calm, make sound decisions, and collaborate effectively with survivors and service partners.

 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Serve in an on-call capacity and respond promptly to hotline calls and urgent requests for support from survivors of trafficking.

  • Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and stabilization for survivors experiencing distress.

  • Assess immediate safety needs and coordinate appropriate responses, including contacting emergency services or other partners when necessary.

  • Help survivors access urgent resources such as emergency housing, transportation, food, clothing, and financial assistance.

  • Coordinate with shelters, hospitals, law enforcement, and other service providers to support survivor safety and well-being.

  • Be available to meet survivors in person within New York City when needed and accompany them to safe locations such as emergency housing, hospitals, or law enforcement interviews.

  • Collaborate with internal staff and external partners to ensure survivors receive coordinated and survivor-centered support.

  • Document crisis calls and interventions in accordance with Restore NYC protocols and maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and internal data security practices.

  • Carry out all responsibilities using trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and survivor-centered approaches consistent with Restore NYC’s program principles.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting individuals impacted by trauma, such as survivors of trafficking, gender-based violence, or sexual assault preferred

  • Training or experience in crisis response and trauma-informed care

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish trust quickly

  • Ability to stay calm, use sound judgment, and prioritize survivor safety during crisis situations

  • Comfortable working with partner organizations such as shelters, hospitals, and law enforcement

  • A strong commitment to supporting the healing and well-being of survivors

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Spanish fluency preferred; additional languages a plus.

 

Compensation

This position includes a $650 monthly stipend for on-call availability, plus $25 per hour for time spent actively responding to calls or providing in-person crisis support.

 

Job Location & On-Call Schedule (NYC-based)

This position is based in New York City. While there is no regular requirement to work from Restore NYC’s office, the advocate must be available to respond to survivors and meet in person at locations across NYC when needed. This contractor role requires on-call coverage during the following hours: Monday–Thursday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 AM, and Friday at 5:00 PM through Monday at 9:00 AM. Advocates are expected to commit to at least 4 months of service, including at least 1 holiday shift.
