About S9 Architecture
S9 Architecture is a 55+ person design practice grounded in modern contextualism—believing that architecture must engage its cultural, social, and environmental surroundings with intelligence and care. Our work spans a broad range of project types throughout New York City and across North America, including multifamily residential (100% affordable, market-rate rental, and luxury condominium), mixed-use developments, office and workplace design, adaptive reuse and repositioning, and cultural and institutional projects.
ARCHITECTURAL INTERNS
New York City (In-Studio)
Position Overview
S9 Architecture is seeking highly design-driven architecture students to join our studio as Summer Interns. This position is intended for developing architects who are eager to engage in a design-led, full-service studio environment and gain hands-on experience working as junior designers on active projects.
Summer Interns at S9 work closely with architects and designers across all levels of the studio, contributing to concept development, design iteration, and documentation. Interns are immersed in the day-to-day life of the studio and participate meaningfully in the architectural process—from early ideas through execution—within a culture where design rigor, iterative exploration, dialogue, and craft are highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Concept
- Contribute to design exploration and development for new buildings and adaptive reuse projects.
- Assist in translating conceptual ideas into drawings, models, diagrams, and visual studies.
Research & Analysis
- Support design development through research, precedent studies, zoning, and contextual analysis.
Production & Collaboration
- Produce presentation materials for internal reviews and client-facing meetings.
- Work in Rhino, Revit, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite as part of project workflows.
- Collaborate closely with project teams and participate in studio pin-ups and design discussions.
- Take initiative on design tasks and contribute ideas within team discussions and reviews.
- Help advance design intent through coordination with technical and documentation teams.
Qualifications
- Completion of at least the third year of an undergraduate architecture program or the first year of a graduate architecture program.
- Strong design sensibility demonstrated through academic work and portfolio.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling and visualization tools; Rhino preferred.
- Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD; Enscape a plus.
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly through drawings, diagrams, and verbal discussion.
- Comfortable receiving critique and iterating on design work.
- Highly motivated, curious, and collaborative.
- Eligible to work in the U.S. and able to commit to the full duration of the internship.
- Must be returning to school following the internship.

- Hourly compensation ranging from $21.00–$24.00, based on experience and education.
