Porter (Full-Time)

Reports To: Floor Manager

From our home in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we are always in the making, drawing inspiration from our local community of innovators, makers, and doers to spread the culture and creativity of craft beer to 30 states and over 30 countries on 5 continents.

POSITION SUMMARY

Brooklyn Brewery is seeking a reliable Porter. Porter is responsible for the cleanliness, safety, and readiness of guest-facing spaces. This 650-capacity, multi-floor space includes several bars, private event rooms, a seasonal rooftop, and public areas that turn over constantly throughout service.

This is a highly visible role. Guests judge the venue by its restrooms, floors, and entryway before they judge anything else, and the Porter owns all of it. The role works from an established rotation rather than being directed task by task, so reliability, initiative, and attention to detail are essential.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Restrooms

  • Complete logged restroom checks according to the rotation set by the Floor Manager, with increased frequency during peak service and events.
  • Clean, sanitize, and restock all restrooms across every floor, including paper goods, soap, and waste receptacles.
  • Respond immediately to restroom issues reported by staff or guests.
  • Report plumbing, fixture, and door hardware failures to the Floor Manager on Duty.

Public Areas and Floors

  • Sweep, mop, and spot-clean all guest-facing floors, stairs, landings, and elevator interiors throughout service.
  • Respond to spills and breakage immediately as a safety priority, using wet floor signage and clearing broken glass safely.
  • Clean and maintain entryways, windows, door glass, handrails, and other high-touch surfaces.
  • Maintain rooftop and outdoor areas, including furniture wipe-down, debris removal, and seasonal readiness.
  • Clear and maintain the sidewalk, curb line, and exterior trash corral, including snow and ice removal within timeframes required by NYC regulations.

Waste and Recycling

  • Pull, sort, and haul trash, recycling, and organics from all bars, public areas, and event spaces to the waste room according to the venue schedule.
  • Keep the waste room clean, organized, and sorted to the venue's carting requirements.
  • Coordinate with the dishwashing team on kitchen waste removal and use of shared corral space.
  • Break down cardboard and packaging and organize empty kegs and other materials for pickup.

Event Turnovers and Setup

  • Reset event rooms between bookings, including furniture placement, table and chair setup, and floor cleaning according to provided diagrams.
  • Support load-in and load-out for programming, including moving equipment and keeping pathways clear.
  • Complete post-show cleaning of performance spaces, including floors, seating areas, and debris removal.
  • Stage supplies and equipment ahead of scheduled events rather than during them.

Facilities Support

  • Restock consumable supplies across all floors and maintain accurate par levels in supply storage areas.
  • Complete basic upkeep tasks assigned by the Floor Manager, such as bulb replacement and filter changes.
  • Report maintenance issues, equipment failures, and safety hazards to the Manager on Duty immediately.
  • Keep all egress paths, stairwells, and fire exits clear at all times.
  • Handle, dilute, and store cleaning chemicals safely and in accordance with label and SDS instructions.

Teamwork and Communication

  • Work from a shift checklist and communicate completion to the Floor Manager on Duty.
  • Coordinate with bar and floor teams on timing so cleaning does not disrupt service.
  • Support teammates during rushes with initiative and ownership rather than waiting to be asked.
  • Contribute to a respectful, collaborative, and safe workplace culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1 year of porter, janitorial, or facilities experience in a restaurant, bar, hotel, or high-volume venue preferred.
  • Ability to work from an established rotation and self-direct through a shift once trained.
  • Strong attention to cleanliness, detail, and guest-facing presentation.
  • Ability to follow chemical and equipment safety guidelines.
  • Reliability and punctuality, including availability for nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with FOH, BOH, and management teams.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish skills are a plus but not required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Closed-toe, slip-resistant footwear is required. Brooklyn Brewery provides uniform items, gloves, and required personal protective equipment.

WORK SCHEDULE

This role covers both pre-service and post-service periods. Availability for late nights, early mornings, Fridays and Saturdays, private events, seasonal rooftop service, and brewery events is required. Wednesday – Monday, closed Tuesdays
