Caliber is looking for an experienced Senior Tax Manager to join our team locally in Scottsdale, AZ.
This position is primarily responsible for helping to create and expand Caliber’s accounting and finance capabilities, in the areas of tax compliance and reporting. This individual will also play an integral role in driving the internal workflows and processes which are critical to a successful tax compliance function.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide overall leadership and oversight for all Federal, State, and Local (FSL) tax matters.
- Lead the domestic ASC 740 income tax provision, including annual and interim provision preparation, review, and documentation.
- Partner closely with Finance, Accounting, and other internal stakeholders to obtain accurate and timely data, ensure proper tax adjustment calculations, and develop a thorough understanding of the book accounting treatment of tax-sensitive items.
- Manage the preparation, technical review, and filing of all domestic income tax returns, including the consolidated federal return and applicable state and local filings.
- Oversee the calculation, review, and submission of Federal, State, and Local estimated tax payments and extension filings.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve tax issues; provide guidance and direction to staff in responding to tax notices, audits, and inquiries from federal and state taxing authorities.
- Oversee the timely preparation, review, and distribution of K-1s to internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide leadership, supervision, and ongoing mentorship to tax staff as the team grows, including performance management, professional development, technical training, and workload oversight to ensure a high-performing and scalable tax function.
- Coordinate with and manage work performed by external tax advisors and temporary or loan staff, as needed.
- Coordinate and assist with the domestic portions of IRS and state tax examinations, including information gathering, response preparation, and audit resolution.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of interim and annual tax controls, ensuring compliance with internal control and SOX requirements.
- Oversee Opportunity Zone compliance, including monitoring adherence to applicable federal and state rules, regulations, and filing requirements related to qualified opportunity funds and investments.
- Coordinate the collection, review, and validation of data necessary to support Opportunity Zone reporting, compliance testing, and documentation.
- Partner with internal stakeholders and external advisors to interpret Opportunity Zone guidance, assess tax impacts, and ensure timely and accurate compliance with related rules.
- Monitor regulatory developments affecting Opportunity Zone investments and evaluate implications for tax reporting, compliance, and planning.
- Monitor changes in tax law and assess impacts to the organization; communicate implications and planning opportunities to management as appropriate.

What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; master's degree in taxation or CPA preferred
- Minimum 6-8 years of progressive corporate tax experience, including a combination of Big 4 firm and in-house corporate tax roles
- Strong technical knowledge of Federal, State, and Local income taxation, including consolidated returns and multi-state compliance & US GAAP
- Demonstrated experience with ASC 740 (income tax provision), including current and deferred tax calculations and disclosures
- Ability to interpret and apply complex tax regulations and communicate technical concepts clearly to non-tax stakeholders.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Real estate experience a plus
- High level of detail, self-motivation and hands-on approach to problem solving is a must
- Demonstrated ability to be able to adapt and execute on activities and deliverables in an unstructured environment.
- Experience effectively working in cross-functional teams
