We are seeking a motivated, deadline-driven individual to join us as a full-time Curriculum Developer. The individual will be strong in writing, time-management, communication, and attention to detail; committed to creating content that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible (DEIA); experienced in teaching and writing school-based content (academic, social, behavioral, adaptive, etc.) for students with disabilities; and prepared to work both independently and as part of a dynamic team.

This is a remote position with an expectation to adhere to our east coast hours of operation.

All applicants will be required to submit a writing sample with their application.  Examples of writing samples are: curriculum content, Master’s thesis, classroom materials, functional behavior assessments or behavior intervention plans that do not include identifiable student information of any type.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Write a variety of classroom-based lesson plans (to be implemented by special education teachers) and related content (i.e., newsletters, graphic organizers, implementation guidelines, etc.) for students with moderate to severe disabilities across various subject areas, including but not limited to ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Transition Skills, Early Childhood/PreK Skills, Social Skills, Adaptive Skills, and Communication Skills. Lesson plans must address content area learning standards that will be specified in the curriculum scope and sequence. All lesson plan content must be adapted to meet the developmental needs of our target student population.
    • Lesson plans must include all original, self-created content and cannot be created, either in part or in whole, using writing programs, AI software, or other content-creation supports.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to creating content that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible. Must be willing and able to productively consider all perspectives when planning and creating content, to communicate about considerations in a solution-oriented manner, and to make independent decisions that meet customer expectations for these four areas.
  • Design worksheets needed to implement classroom-based lesson plans, this includes and is not limited to communicating clearly and consistently with our art team on worksheet production or using internal systems to create high-quality worksheets independently.
  • Create technology-based lessons that provide instruction in specific content area learning standards using our proprietary lesson authoring software. The content in these lessons will be adapted from state and national learning standards to meet the developmental needs of one of our three student-functioning levels.
  • Create classroom-based AND technology-based content and supports across learning domains (academic, social emotional, adaptive, cognitive, language development, behavioral) for children and young adults with moderate to severe disabilities, ages 18 months through 22 years.
  • Differentiate content across three student functioning levels, when given description of abilities/challenges characteristic of each group of students, within the population of students with moderate to severe disabilities.
  • Must be flexible and able to move fluidly from one task to another.
  • Align classroom-based lesson plans and technology-based lessons to state and national standards.
  • Create assessment content based on the classroom-based lesson plans, state and national learning standards, and typical developmental progressions in specific skill areas.
  • Consistently meet weekly production goals and with a strong orientation to deadlines.  This includes managing multiple task assignments and maintaining awareness of progress against deadlines on all assignments.
  • Select images for both worksheets and technology-based lessons. Images should be appropriate for the concepts and skills being taught as well as the age of the target population.
  • Produce written content with few to no grammatical errors, typos, etc.
  • Work both independently on specific development tasks and collaboratively with the development team on broader curriculum planning, decision-making, and execution.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have experience developing content in one or more domains (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Transition, Functional Academics/Life Skills, and/or Early Childhood Skills) that aligns to state standards for school-aged students with moderate to severe disabilities.
  • Excellent technology skills, including but not limited to Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Drive (Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides), and the Adobe suite of products (Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop).
