TeachTown is the leading provider of education solutions for students diagnosed with autism, developmental and intellectual disabilities, emotional disorders, and speech/language impairments. Our growing team of professionals is seeking a Controller.  Reporting to the CFO, this role will oversee the company’s financial systems, accounting, and control functions.   You will be tasked with owning the month end close process, annual audits, tax reporting, control processes, cash management, and more.



Role and Responsibilities: 


  • Own the monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations, and G/L analysis

  • Verify the accuracy and timeliness of all financial functions: month/quarter/year end reporting, payroll processing, inventory, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash and credit card management

  • Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, adhering to national and local legal standards while remaining knowledgeable of proposed legislation

  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows

  • Lead annual financial statement audit - This includes and is not limited to, preparing for the audit, acting as the designated point person for the auditors, gathering and organizing all requested documentation and/or samples, issue management and follow up, conducting risk assessments, and managing the audit timeline (i.e., weekly calls to discuss the status of the audit, open items, and potential issues) 

  • Handle all customer contract exceptions, credits, etc. with finance staff to ensure accuracy of invoicing and correct ASC 606 revenue recognition

  • Coordinate with third party tax firm on federal and state tax returns, inquiries, and annual tax provisions; Review and approve all relevant state sales taxes submissions

  • Prepare semi-monthly and bi-weekly payroll entries 

  • Reconcile credit card accounts and travel expense reporting. Review travel expenses and activity for accuracy and reasonableness in keeping with the company’s T&E policy.

  • Support Finance Department initiatives, including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, through research, planning and implementation, as needed

  • Develop and empower finance staff 


Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

  • 8-10 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience

  • 1-3 years of experience managing a team of at least 1 direct report

  • 5+ years of experience in financial reporting, analysis, and month-end close

  • 2+ years of leading annual financial audits

  • Proven technical accounting oversight including areas of ASC 606 revenue recognition, capitalized software, inventory, and commissions

  • Working knowledge of payroll processes 



Preferred Education and Experience:

  • SaaS experience, strongly preferred

  • Masters in Finance or CPA

  • Experience utilizing Intacct ERP system

  • Private equity company experience
