Shattuck Labs, Inc. (“Shattuck”) is developing a breakthrough platform for immunotherapy, which harnesses the human immune system to improve survival for patients battling cancer and inflammatory disease. Shattuck’s proprietary technology represents the next evolutionary step in cancer therapy by endowing one molecule with multiple functions with applicability across the entire spectrum of human disease. Shattuck, based in Austin, Texas, is a privately-held biotechnology company founded in 2016. The Research and Development hub for Shattuck is based in Research Triangle Park, NC.

Job Descriptions

This individual will be responsible for overseeing the accounting operations of Shattuck and reporting directly to the Controller. This individual will be a key member of the Finance & Accounting team will be an integral member of the Corporate team. The Accounting Manager will be a critical growth hire of the Company, supporting the Controller in the creation and execution of streamlined accounting processes to support the Company’s growth and expansion. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated and detail oriented, with a strong foundation in GAAP. Analyzes and interprets financial data and recommends changes to improve systems and financial performance.

Job Duties

Perform, manage and provide day-to-day leadership of the accounting function in the execution of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting close activities and completion of financial records in accordance with GAAP and Shattuck’s corporate policies

•Exercise discretion and independent judgement developing and maintaining an effective financial reporting system, including improvement of existing processes and developing new processes that enable effective, efficient and reliable accounting transactions.

•Perform and/or supervise the following day-to-day operating activities:
-Ensure accurate and complete classification of transactional and non-recurring financial & operational activity
-Ensure accurate and complete classification and GL coding of invoices entered into accounting platform
-Prepare recurring and non-recurring journal entries
-Manage R&D and clinical trial accruals (CRO fees, investigator fees, lab fees, and other vendor costs) for multiple studies for R&D clinical trial accruals (clinical trial accruals, as well as CRO and investigator fees)

•Become Shattuck’s subject matter expert in the design, implementation, maintenance and administration of the Shattuck’’s ERP system

•Review and/ or supervise monthly vendor reconciliations and analysis of the Company’s key contracts

•Plan and manage requests of the external audit firm in connection with interim reviews and annual audits of the Company’s financial statements

•Responsible for Shattuck’s processing and recording of payroll and the administration of the Company’s 401(k) plan

Qualification and Education Requirements

The successful candidate has the ability to thrive working in a fast-paced, innovative environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient. Excellent leadership, communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional, multi-faceted/location environment; as well as a proven ability to achieve results in a virtual setting. Other requirements are:

Education / Experience
•Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required; Master’s Degree preferred, but not required
•CPA preferred, but not required
•Minimum of 5+ years of proven accounting experience and 3+ years of general ledger accounting experience
•Previous Big 4 or regional public accounting experience
•Experience in biotech, pharmaceutical or life sciences industry experience preferred, but not required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Advanced knowledge of general ledger, internal controls, month-end close processes, and US GAAP to ensure the completeness and accuracy of the Company’s financial statements
•Analytical problem-solving abilities and ability to utilize Microsoft excel in an advanced capacity to filter and analyze transactions (e.g. Pivot tables, vlookups, etc.)
•Strong knowledge of financial systems (ERP systems) and the procure-to-pay cycle
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
•Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
•Ability to work with minimal supervision and good independent judgment
•Must have scheduling flexibility to meet the demands of monthly and quarterly close (despite flexible scheduling otherwise!)
