Since 1973, the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) has been a leader in the movement to end sexual violence. BARCC empowers survivors of sexual violence to heal and provides education and advocacy for the social change needed to create cultures that prevent sexual violence. The role

Our Development team is looking for an experienced full-time Events Specialist. You will be responsible for conceptualizing, organizing, and executing all fundraising and donor stewardship events, which include the annual Champions for Change Gala (~650 attendees) and Walk for Change (~2,000 participants). You will be the primary lead to execute all event logistics, including coordinating in-kind sponsorships and volunteer and contractor resources. Your work will further BARCC’s mission of ending sexual violence through healing and social change.

Where and when you’ll work

BARCC's staff, operations, hours, and location vary by function, type of work, and work style. You’ll work from our Cambridge office, located at 99 Bishop Allen Drive.

This is a 40-hour, full time position. You can expect to work regularly Monday through Friday with occasional evening hours for committee meetings and a few weekend days directly around the Gala and Walk. Additional hours may be required at times to meet event deadlines. BARCC is open to discussing options such as flexibility in scheduling and occasional remote work.

What you’ll do

  • Plan, develop, and execute special events as a part of a coordinated annual development plan.
  • Participate in setting, meeting, and exceeding event revenue goals.
  • Organize and coordinate vibrant and effective event planning committees with a focus on volunteer retention.
  • Develop and execute strategic initiatives to significantly grow event attendance and revenue.
  • Coordinate and plan annual donor appreciation event and donor house parties.
  • Manage relationships with contractors and in-kind sponsors.
  • Cultivate, support, motivate, and steward peer-to-peer fundraisers, table captains, major donors, event committee members, etc.
  • Coordinate production of event collateral, including invitations, promotional items, signage, and other materials needed in conjunction with Communications team.
  • Collaborate with Communications team on social media programming and content, and other creative marketing activities in support of special events.
  • Work collaboratively with Development and program staff to ensure BARCC events are well integrated across the organization’s departments and programs.
  • In coordination with the Development Manager, orchestrate the speaking programs for both events.
  • Handle inquiries and questions from donors and funders with appreciation, respect, and sensitivity.
  • Manage Walk for Change website and IT support for fundraisers.
  • Work with the Development Coordinator to create and maintain systems for accurate and useful event attendee data management.
  • Screen, select, and supervise 1 to 2 interns per year.

You’ll bring

  • A love for events with 3–5 years of experience planning and executing large-scale, strategic events such as galas, live/silent auctions, walks/races, etc.
  • Proven track record of motivating volunteers to drive and grow event revenue and attendance.
  • Experience in or great appreciation for utilizing event metrics to determine ROI as well as inform strategy and improvements.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, goal-oriented environment.
  • Enthusiasm, creativity, a positive sense of humor, and a can-do attitude.
  • Demonstrated commitment to BARCC’s mission and philosophy.

Starting salary range and benefits

$47,000–$57,000, depending on experience and skills. The total compensation package includes a generous benefits package, including health, dental, vacation, sick time, and other coverage options.
