The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center is looking for a new full-time staff member. The emergency services and PREA assistant will support BARCC’s two 24-hour programs, hotline and medical advocacy, and provide advocacy to survivors of sexual violence who are incarcerated. Our ideal candidate will have experience in working with people in crisis by phone and in person, a passion for providing critical resources, and excellent organizational skills. 

About the position
The emergency services and PREA assistant is primarily responsible for supporting the hotline, medical advocacy, and the PREA project by providing high-quality advocacy services in alignment with BARCC’s mission and philosophy. The assistant’s duties include direct service, administrative support, and program support. The assistant will work closely with the hotline, medical advocacy, PREA project, and advocacy teams.

Responsibilities include the following:
  • Coordinate the hotline services of BARCC’s PREA program, including training staff, updating schedule, and coordinating phone system.
  • Develop focused support materials, including brochures, resource lists, and letters, that will be useful to people who are incarcerated or reentering after incarceration.
  • Maintain a mail database and response system for responding to survivors who are incarcerated.
  • Provide direct PREA hotline, BARCC hotline, and medical advocacy program services.
  • Provide backup support to volunteers through daytime staff cell coverage.
  • Assist the hotline and medical advocacy coordinators with preparing and conducting weekly peer supervision meetings.
  • Support hotline and medical advocacy coordinators in maintaining on-call and backup schedules, ensuring that both programs have 24-7 coverage.
  • Ensure that all critical information is accurately entered into database by staff and volunteers in a timely manner. 

Qualifications
  • Be comfortable with providing emergency service and support to survivors over the phone and in local emergency departments. Spanish-speaking skills are highly desirable.
  • Desire to improve the response to survivors who are incarcerated is required; experience is strongly preferred.
  • Outstanding organizational and administrative skills to attend to multiple program needs.
  • Team player with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Flexibility to shift between providing responsive services to survivors and independently working on long-term, programmatic projects.
  • The person in this position will need to pass a background check and may need to attend a Department of Corrections New Employee Orientation program.

Starting Salary Range
$34,000–$35,000, plus generous benefits package, including health, dental, vacation, sick time, and other coverage options.
