CATALOG, a Boston-based pioneering startup, is making significant strides in the field of data storage and computation by harnessing the power of DNA. DNA, known for its millennia-long stability, unrivaled information density, and cost-effective replicability, offers revolutionary potential for latency-tolerant high-density data storage and massively parallel computation.

We are actively seeking a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate with a solid grounding in molecular biology or chemistry. In this role, you'll be instrumental in helping to build CATALOG's innovative DNA-based data storage and computation platform. You'll collaborate with our dynamic team of computer scientists and biologists, developing novel storage and computing architectures and translating them into scalable chemical operations. Your work will contribute to the optimization of a molecular instruction set that underpins the world’s first DNA storage and computing platform.

In this role, you will:

Develop, optimize, and execute scalable biochemical operations that process DNA-encoded information, demonstrating your technical skills and attention to detail.

Perform a range of molecular biology assays and techniques, including qPCR, nuclease digestion, DNA quantification, and more, showcasing your extensive laboratory expertise.

Prepare DNA libraries for sequencing, utilizing your knowledge of genomic processes.

Execute, analyze, and troubleshoot experimental methods and results, highlighting your problem-solving abilities and analytical mindset.

Participate in and contribute to scientific discussions, meetings, and presentations, demonstrating your effective communication and collaboration skills.

Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment, showcasing your ability to work well with diverse teams and disciplines.

We are looking for someone driven by:

A desire to learn and grow as a scientist, showcasing a commitment to personal and professional development.

The thrill of building groundbreaking technology, indicating a passion for innovation and advancement.

Curiosity and a desire to turn scientific ideas into a reality, demonstrating your creative thinking and problem-solving skills.

You will also need to be able to:

Thrive in a changing but supportive environment, showing adaptability and resilience.

Work collaboratively in small, cross-disciplinary teams, demonstrating strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.

Plan and execute experiments with support from senior researchers, indicating your initiative and ability to work under mentorship.

Ideally, we are looking for someone with:

A BS or MS in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline, coupled with ideally 1+ years of lab experience, showcasing a strong academic and practical background.

Experience following protocols and executing experiments in a molecular biology lab, indicating solid practical lab skills.

Experience performing in vitro nucleic acid-based techniques such as PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, enzymatic treatment, and/or sequencing library prep, demonstrating a range of technical competencies.

Demonstrated eagerness and ability to quickly learn new techniques, reflecting a proactive and open mindset.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, indicating your ability to work effectively within a team and manage multiple tasks.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, and rapidly growing biotech environment, demonstrating your ability to adapt and succeed in a dynamic context.

At CATALOG, we challenge you to think critically, work creatively, and conquer uncharted problems in a groundbreaking field. We believe in building an inclusive team with different points of view. We support and celebrate diversity in our workforce. We offer competitive compensation packages, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with company matching, and unlimited PTO.

Note: Even if you don’t meet all of the requirements listed, we encourage you to apply. Think of it more as looking for most of the items listed, not all.
