CATALOG is a Boston-based startup on a mission to preserve and compute on the world’s most valuable data. We are looking for a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate with a background in molecular biology or chemistry who will work on our team to build CATALOG’s DNA-based data storage and computation platform. In this role, you will help our team of computer scientists and biologists to develop novel storage and computing architectures and translate them into scalable chemical operations. You will help build and optimize a molecular instruction set that helps realize the world’s first DNA storage and computing platform. 

 

In this role, you will: 

  • Develop, optimize, and execute scalable biochemical operations that process DNA-encoded information 

  • Perform molecular biology assays and techniques, including qPCR, nuclease digestion, DNA quantification, etc. 

  • Prepare DNA libraries for sequencing 

  • Execute, analyze, and troubleshoot experimental methods and results 

  • Participate and contribute to scientific discussions, meetings, and presentations 

  • Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment

Ideally, we are looking for someone with: 

  • A BS or MS in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or a related discipline, and ideally 1+ years of lab experience 

  • Experience following protocols and executing experiments in a molecular biology lab 

  • Experience performing in vitro nucleic acid-based techniques such as PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, enzymatic treatment, and/or sequencing library prep. 

  • Demonstrated eagerness and ability to quickly learn new techniques 

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills 

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, and rapidly growing biotech environment
