Principal Network Engineer

(Full Time — Chicago)

The Role


Edovo’s Infrastructure Team designs and operates the network services that deliver Edovo’s secure digital platform to jails and prisons across the United States.  This includes backend hosting systems, wide area transport, customer premise installations, end to end security, automation, and management solutions.  


We focus on security, stability, scalability, fault tolerance, and automation. We strive to provide our customers and internal teams with 100% system and service availability.


Working under Edovo’s VP of Engineering the Principal Network Engineer will define and execute our network infrastructure strategy.  This includes the design, implementation, and operation of networks serving tens of thousands of devices for voice, video, and data.  


GENERAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


Infrastructure Engineering (60%):

  • Execute,​ and​ improve​ upon ​the infrastructure rollout of Edovo​ Customer ​Site ​Deployments 

  • Improve ​existing ​architecture, ​maintenance,​and​ processes ​of ​Edovo’s ​network  infrastructure. 

  • Create​ and ​maintain​ documentation​ (Installation ​procedures, design guides, operational runbooks,​ etc.) 

  • Maintaining​ and ​scaling ​Layer​3​ network ​infrastructure

  • Design Site Reliability Engineering, Disaster Recovery and Continuity of Business. 

  • Building​ and ​scaling​ back​end ​network​ services 

  • Deploy ​infrastructure​ on ​Edovo’s​ Hybrid​ Cloud 


Infrastructure Leadership (20%):

  • Plan, define, and communicate infrastructure strategy.  

  • Participate in strategic business planning with leadership as it relates to infrastructure

  • Provide specific technical mentorship and guidance to infrastructure engineers.  

  • Plan and execute compliance initiatives like SOC2 and  FedRAMP


Infrastructure Support (20%):

  • Triage incoming outages, and escalations during core working hours of 9am-5pm

  • Work on/during maintenance windows that have been prioritized that week.

  • Be the internal escalation point for issues risen from development, product, and customer support

  • Participate in a regular noc-on-call rotation lasting one week at a time.

  • Triage and respond to PagerDuty alerts 24/7 during the week on call.


Qualifications


MUST-HAVES

  • 10+ years experience as a Senior Network Engineer.  

  • Experiencing operating wired and wireless networks with tens of thousands of connected devices.

  • Expert level networking knowledge.  Candidate should be comfortable designing, implementing, monitoring, and troubleshooting large scale hybrid cloud network designs.  

  • Passion for Edovo’s mission and positively impacting this underserved community.  


TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Industry and vendor specific certifications and training (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc)

  • Demonstrated experience with routing protocols such as: BGP, MPLS, OSPF, EIGRP, VRF, OTV and QoS.

  • Firewall design, configuration and policy enforcement

  • Scripting in Python, Ruby, Shell or equivalent 

BONUS POINTS FOR

  • Previous startup experience

  • Experience working with large-scale mobile deployments

  • Compliance automation including SOC2 Type 2 and FedRAMP

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology
