The Key Account Manager (KAM) is responsible for building and owning the relationship with our most crucial client accounts. The KAM is the lead point of contact for key client matters to help our clients succeed and works closely with other department to ensure client needs are met. The KAM also identifies new opportunities within their existing clients and contacts, and may develop new relationships with clients that have key account potential.  

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strategic long-term trusting relationships with crucial clients to accomplish organic growth and long-term company objective. 
  • Anticipate clients’ needs by understanding their business issues, and goals, at a tactical and strategic level
  • Maintain knowledge and have awareness of competing products/services, discount and pricing structures, and overall strengths and weaknesses in order to determine how best to service and motivate key accounts to stay with the business 
  • Develop and execute account plans to support the above duties and responsibilities
  • Work closely with Customer Success to escalate and resolve issues/complaints in a timely manner
  • Anticipate key account changes and improvements
  • Manage all communications with key clients in a professional manner, both verbally and through writing
  • Work closely and collaboratively with internal teams to ensure client deliverables are met
  • Negotiate contracts with client and establishing timeline of performance
  • Utilize high level negotiation and sales skills to maximize profit by up-selling or cross-selling
  • Developing and presenting reports on account progress, goals, and quarterly initiatives to share with team members, stakeholders, and possible use in future case studies or company training
  • Measure, track, and analyze key account metrics including documentation of activities in CRM and maintaining clean data.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date forecast and pipeline
  • Expanding current relationships and networks to bringing in new clients

Requirements and Qualification

  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Goal-oriented, organized team player who is encouraging to team and staff
  • Models cooperation, collaboration, and teamwork; ability to mentor and lead
  • Self-motivated and self-direct
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills and emotional awareness
  • In-depth understanding and knowledge of company key clients and their position in the industry, and our industry
  • Eager and passionate about expanding company with new sales, clients, and territories
  • Able to analyze data and sales statistics and translate results into better solutions
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, sales, or relevant field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Five years of work experience in sales, account management, key account management, customer success, or relevant experience
  • Background and/or experience in life sciences is a plus
  • Excellent and professional verbal and written communication skills; must be a listener, a presenter, and a people-person
  • Exceptional customer service and sales negotiation skills
  • Basic computer skills, and experience with CRM software G Suite or Microsoft Suite with emphasis on superior Excel skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills, with ability follow-through on client contracts
  • Ability to multitask and manage more than one client account
  • Proven results of delivering client solutions and meeting sales goals
