About the Role:

Communities In Schools is hiring a BI Developer who has knowledge both in frontend and backend development. The main requirement for this role is to develop and deploy tools after gathering feedback from the prime stakeholders. You will be responsible for creating complex reports and underlying queries and database models. You will also be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing bugs with reporting and analytic solutions, in addition to supporting the data team through network data verification.

Required skills & qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • Three to five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute multiple projects deliverables with overlapping deadlines.
  • Able to communicate technical requirements and easily identify the nuances/caveats within a project.
  • Strong attention to detail to be able to call attention to inconsistencies, identify the frequency/depth of an issue, quickly identify solutions to problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate difficult concepts to engage a non-technical audience in decision-making around system changes/enhancements.
  • Must have a general understanding of database architecture and table structures, and data visualization best practices.
  • Willingness to learn and a flexibility to shift as priorities shift.
  • High level of proficiency with Excel i.e., advanced formulas and pivots, VBA scripting, etc.
  • Experience as a BI Developer and working knowledge of BI technologies.
  • Knowledge of SQL queries, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and SQL Server Integration Service (SSIS).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  •  Knowledge of the education field, specifically around issues of equity.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities

 60% - Develop Reports and CISDM technology

·       Use completed report specification documents to develop business intelligence deliverables through ad-hoc SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and functions to power SSRS reports and CaseWorthy-embedded reporting technologies

·       Develop or update SQL queries and scripts

·       Develop source-to-target mapping, or data transformation instructions that outline how to convert data in the source system to the target system as well as map the data values

·       Test databases and troubleshoot any issues

·       Learn and use CaseWorthy-embedded reporting technologies to produce reporting solutions, such as Exago.

·       Work with the support team to provide answers to their questions regarding proper use or logic behind reports

·       Maintain, debug, and provide updates to pre-existing business intelligence deliverables to assist support and product management teams

·       Research new technologies and how to implement them to the end of improving our Business Intelligence offering

·       Provide Training, upon request, to internal and external users on how to use CaseBot and SSRS reports within the context of the CaseWorthy system

25% - Data Reporting and Visualization

·       Work with team to complete the End of Year verification process – a four-phase process which includes the collection and review of staff, school, student, and organization data

·       Support the creation of the annual data book, including running scripts to export and aggregate data from within the database into an Excel format.

·       Develop reports for organizational outcomes for funders, board members, and other stakeholders.

15% - Presentations and Content Consulting

·       Serve as a support both internally and to CIS organizations around data collection, use of data in practice, and value of data to drive diverse, equitable, and inclusive outcomes within our organizations.

·       Support the Org Health team on Town Hall, Learning & Practice team on Student Supports Institute, Data Admin convening, and monthly CISDM Success Series presentations. Provide written and verbal feedback and content expertise related to the use of data within the network.

·       Support monthly meetings with network Data Administrators to inform them of recent system developments and to provide training where needed.
