About the Role:

The Major Gifts Officer will design, develop, implement and grow our major gift program to $10M over the next five years. The MGO is responsible for managing and stewarding relationships with existing major donors, cultivating a pipeline of existing prospects, creating compelling proposals, and identifying new prospects. An ability to empathize with donors, interact confidently with diverse and influential people, build trust, and clearly communicate Communities In Schools’ mission is key. This person will be persuasive, persistent, and not afraid to make a big ask and close the deal.  

 We are searching for a self-starter. Someone who is energized by the idea of generating their own leads. In looking at diverse candidates, this person would be able to work well independently and have strong intuition for seeing how different organizational components can work together, particularly across Advancement.

Required skills & qualifications:

·                    Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5-7 years’ experience.

·                    Knowledge of charitable gift laws.

·                    Experience in Moves Management, wealth screening tools/techniques, and planned giving/estate planning.

·                    Experience with mid-level giving programs & membership programs.

·                    Ability to effectively communicate with diverse and influential audience.

·                    Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize work based on goals.

·                    Ability to fearlessly and tactfully solicit major donors

·                    Experience using Technology (CRM) tools.

·                    Knowledge in creating reports and budgeting.

·                    Thorough knowledge of fundraising best practices and understanding of the philanthropic landscape.

·                    Able to build and foster relationships, conduct prospect research with a strong adherence to customer service. 


Preferred skills:

Bilingual or Multilingual abilities are a plus


Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

45% - Communicate directly with donors to steward, cultivate, and solicit major donations (meetings, calls, email).


15% - Develop mutual value proposals that help donors and CIS achieve the greatest impact.


10% - Managing Staff (1) to support research, donor stewardship, content development.


10% - Collaborate with board members and senior staff to identify prospects and cultivate relationships.


10% - Develop and grow pipeline of prospective donors.


5% - Systems and software tracking and recordkeeping (primarily Salesforce).

·         Devise strategy, lead stewardship and growth of major gifts program (five figure gifts and above), through lead generation and frontline fundraising, to grow our major giving to $10M over the next five years.

·         Leverage Board relationships to advance relationships with major donors and strengthen solicitations.

·         Integrate planned giving techniques and strategies into major gifts program.

·         Provide strategic input on the development of a mid-level giving program as our list and constituency grows.
