POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Information Technology builds and maintains the organization’s technical foundation, keeping systems secure, reliable, and scalable to support program teams in their work. This role leads infrastructure, development, DevOps, cybersecurity, AI systems, and data architecture to advance the organization’s mission.
As the Security Officer, the Director drives cybersecurity strategy, risk management, and compliance, including SOC 2 preparation. Working closely with the Director of Information Services, they align platform decisions with user needs, program impact, and long-term organizational goals. A member of the Senior Leadership Team, this role shapes the future of the organization’s systems and the success of its mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
30% Platform & Data Architecture
- Supervise the Data Architect & Optimization Lead to mature the enterprise data lake and pipelines.
- Architect scalable solutions for data ingestion, validation, integration, and governance.
- Prepare data platforms for advanced analytics, BI, and AI integration.
- Drive an AI-first approach to data architecture and technical platforms.
25% Technical Delivery & Development
- Manage the Technical Delivery Manager, the SCRUM Team, and oversee all development contractors, ensuring timely, high-quality feature delivery.
- Lead the evolution from vendor-supported development toward a mature internal engineering capability.
- Ensure strong SDLC practices, Agile ceremonies, and delivery KPIs.
- Oversee environmental governance, deployment processes, and release management.
- Develop a strategy for hiring internal developers leveraging AI programming tools.
20% Infrastructure, DevOps & IT Operations
- Lead the Manager of DevOps and team responsible for infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and IT operations, including Help Desk support.
- Drive automation and optimization within Azure DevOps pipelines and IT workflows.
- Ensure ITIL best practices for incident, change, and release management.
- Maintain secure, reliable, and scalable infrastructure supporting daily operations.
15% Cybersecurity, Risk & Compliance
- Serve as the organization’s Security Officer.
- Own cybersecurity strategy, policies, and enterprise security posture.
- Lead preparation for SOC 2 and other compliance frameworks.
- Oversee Managed SIEM and EDRP platforms, ensuring proactive detection and response.
- Oversee Microsoft Defender suite for endpoint, identity, and cloud defense.
- Oversee identity management and access governance through Entra ID (Azure AD).
- Lead business continuity, disaster recovery, and risk management planning.
10% Quality Assurance
- Oversee the QA Lead to ensure test automation and validation across platforms.
- Maintain high standards for data accuracy, integrations, and system performance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 10 years of experience across development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and DevOps.
- Proven success managing Agile SDLC practices and technical delivery at scale.
- Deep expertise with Azure cloud services and infrastructure governance.
- Strong understanding of data architecture, SQL performance tuning, ETL workflows, and integration frameworks.
- Experience leading enterprise cybersecurity programs and serving in a security and compliance role.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as HIPAA or SOC 2.
- Experience managing offshore or third-party technical resources.
Preferred
- Experience with mSIEM and EDR platforms, such as Adlumin.
- Expertise with Microsoft Defender (endpoint, identity, cloud).
- Proficiency with Entra ID (Azure Active Directory) for identity management.
- Experience using Azure DevOps for pipeline orchestration and backlog management.
- Experience with Azure Data Factory, Synapse, or Microsoft Fabric.
- Demonstrated success preparing organizations for SOC 2 compliance.
- Familiarity with scripting/automation for infrastructure and security.
- ITIL, Agile, or Cloud Architecture certifications.
- Hands-on experience with existing IT AI tools and emerging AI technologies.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position reports to the Deputy Chief and has up to six direct reports.
