Position Overview

 We are seeking an experienced professional with a strong foundation in the principles of project management and has demonstrated ability to manage drug development projects from late stage research to proof of concept. This individual will work closely with project leaders and cross-functional teams to define project strategy, develop integrated project plans, and implement plans to meet business objectives.We are seeking an experienced professional with a strong foundation in the principles of project management and has demonstrated ability to manage drug development projects from late stage research to proof of concept. Key Responsibilities

 

•Collaborate with the cross-functional core project team (pre-clinical, clinical operations, CMC, regulatory, clinical research, biomarkers team) on program strategies, development plans, and alternate scenarios.

•Build operational plans for program strategy, including alternative and backup scenarios.

•Ensure execution of functional plans along agreed timelines, monitor functional areas and collaborators/consultants to drive execution of plans against strategy.

•Partner with team leaders to ensure the team achieve and maintains a high-level of sustainable performance, by applying appropriate team management best practices.

•Identify critical path activities and the dependencies between those activities.

•Manage day-to-day operations of multiple programs.

•Support Finance in developing program budgets and tracking actuals to forecast. Proactively identify areas where there are significant deviations and where resource savings could be realized.

•Develop tracking and company communication tools to assess and record the status of projects and vendor deliverables and to communicate information across the company.

•Support due diligence activities for assets that might enter the portfolio.

•Align needs across internal projects and with external partners

•Develop corporate and/or organizational policies and authorize their implementation, coordinating across cross-functional groups within the Terns US and China offices.

•Serve as a liaison to manage business and contractual relationships between Terns and partner companies

•Participate in strategic communications to ensure successful alliance management and communicate closely with the Terns business development, Joint Steering Committee members, and other cross functional departments to ensure that the Terns’ needs from partners are met and that Terns and their partners comply with contractual obligations

 

 

Professional Experience/Qualifications

The successful candidate will be an innovative and collaborative individual who thrives in a “get it done” type of environment with a strong track record of hands on experience in project management with the following mix of personal and professional characteristics:

 

•The ideal candidate will have minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry, with at least 6-8 years direct development project management managing cross-functional teams

•Strong understanding of drug development strategies across all critical product development disciplines (pre-clinical, clinical, CMC, RA/QA, commercial strategy and development).  Experience in developing combination therapy is a strong advantage. NASH experience is a plus.

•Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with all levels within the company, with partners and functional areas. Establish trust and credibility with Terns and with partner companies.

•Ability to summarize complex information into simple concepts for broad communication to project teams as well as for management status reports.

•Strong proficiency with project management tools, best practices, and methodology

•Strong interpersonal skills; ability to influence others in a highly matrixed organization.

•Preference for small company pharma experience.

•Able to advance strategy development both short and long-term.

•Passionate, persistent and tenacious. Strong ability to prioritize and operate with a sense of urgency.

•Able to balance being with biotech mindset of being highly strategic in nature and a hands-on, roll-up-the-sleeves style to get things done.

•Trustworthy with highest integrity, committed to ethics and scientific standards.

•Direct report experience preferred.
