About Girlstart:

Founded in 1997, Girlstart's mission is to increase girls' interest and engagement in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through innovative, nationally recognized informal STEM education programs. Girlstart's year-round programs inspire girls to transform our world. These programs include after school, week-long summer camps, community STEM programs, and an annual girls conference. Girlstart provides After School programs in multiple cities across Texas, Boston, MA, and the South Bay Area, CA.

 

Job Description:

Work closely with staff, schools, participants, parents, volunteers and STEM CREW to implement Girlstart’s After School and Summer Camp Programs in Houston. Support program team in planning, organizing and executing Girlstart programs. Foster and maintain meaningful relationships with districts, school administration, teachers, parents, STEM CREW program leaders, and other community organizations to accomplish organizational and program goals.  

 

Responsibilities:

  • Organize HTX After School and Summer Camp program logistics and day-to-day implementation

  • Responsible for front line staff (called STEM CREW) hiring, training, management, and supervision  

  • Manage participant communication including club schedules, confirmations, reminders, special events, etc.

  • Oversee distribution and collection of participant registration forms, attendance, and surveys

  • Facilitate successful relationships between program partners, STEM CREW, and Girlstart 

  • Lead programs and serve as Girlstart representative in Regional location(s) as needed

  • Support Girlstart team with office operations (office organization, volunteer supervision, etc.)

  • Contribute to the success of Girlstart’s strategic plan goals

  • Other duties as assigned 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience in youth programming or informal STEM education

  • Minimum two years of experience and proven success in planning and implementing quality programming for youth

  • Ability to supervise, motivate, train, and coach college age youth

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

  • Positive, friendly, flexible and outgoing

  • Effective organization skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively 

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work as a team player and foster cooperative work 

  • Proven track record of meeting deadlines and deliverables 

  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and a commitment to the mission of Girlstart

  • Reliable, dependable, and timely 

  • Knowledge of educational learning standards and experience creating youth serving curriculum preferred 

 

Special Requirements:

  • Reliable transportation. This position needs to be comfortable driving to observe or lead programs, attend events, etc. 

  • ​​Experience with Google Suite, Zoom, and working with remote teams

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends, when needed 

  • Physical ability to lift at least 10lbs

 

Location: The HTX Program Coordinator is based out of Girlstart’s office, 2000 Crawford Ste 1335

Houston, TX 77002 . This position will be required to be in person with some flexibility for remote work.
