Job Description
Kunz is looking for a Technical Director to provide technical leadership and oversight across our programs.
This role is responsible for ensuring technical work is accurate, consistent, scalable, and aligned with client requirements and Kunz standards. The Technical Director oversees a technical discipline, capability, system, or group of related engineering functions across multiple teams and programs, with a scope that extends beyond individual project delivery.
You’ll work closely with Engineering Managers, Program Managers, Program Directors, and executive leadership to establish technical approaches and standards, review complex or high-risk work, resolve cross-program technical issues, and help teams make sound technical decisions.
This is a senior technical leadership role for someone who can balance technical quality with the practical realities of delivering complex programs.
Primary Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership across a discipline, capability, system, or group of related engineering functions spanning multiple teams and programs

Establish and maintain technical standards, engineering methods, review requirements, and quality expectations

Review complex, high-risk, or novel technical work and challenge assumptions when additional analysis or technical review is needed

Resolve technical issues that cross projects, teams, disciplines, or programs

Serve as a senior technical advisor to clients and support Program Managers and Program Directors in resolving significant technical concerns

Participate in executive-level or high-risk client discussions when technical strategy, credibility, or assurance is required

Make or approve significant decisions related to technical standards, engineering methods, technical risk, review requirements, and deliverable quality

Require corrective action or prevent work from advancing when material technical concerns have not been adequately resolved

Develop Engineering Managers, senior engineers, and technical specialists through technical guidance, coaching, and clear performance expectations

Identify technical capability gaps and help shape hiring, development, and succession priorities

Contribute technical strategy, solution development, effort estimates, risk assessment, and technical expertise to proposals and client pursuits

Help develop new technical capabilities, services, standards, tools, and methods as Kunz continues to grow
Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or a related technical field, or equivalent directly relevant technical experience

12+ years of progressive technical experience, including leadership of complex engineering work

Experience leading or reviewing technical work across multiple projects, teams, or programs

Experience establishing technical approaches, standards, review requirements, or engineering methods

Experience providing guidance to senior technical employees or engineering leaders

Ability to travel regularly based on client and program needs

Experience with data centers, mission-critical facilities, or other technically complex infrastructure

Experience with multi-site, modular, model-based, or repeatable delivery systems

Experience reviewing complex, multidisciplinary, or high-risk technical work

Experience developing organizational standards, tools, systems, or technical methods

Experience developing Engineering Managers, senior engineers, or technical specialists

Experience supporting major proposals, client pursuits, or strategic client relationships

Strong technical communication skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers, project leaders, executives, and clients

Professional licensure or relevant technical certification

Advanced technical education in a relevant field
Position Details
This is a full-time position based in Golden, Colorado.
The Technical Director will work across multiple programs and teams and should expect regular travel to client sites and project locations based on business and program needs.

Compensation
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $120,000–$175,000 annually, with a midpoint of $148,000.
This position is also eligible for an annual performance-based bonus opportunity of 0–20%.
Individual compensation will be based on relevant experience, technical qualifications, scope of responsibility, and internal equity.
This position will be posted for a minimum of three days. The posting may remain open beyond that period until the position is filled.
