JLSa2 is a new and recently launched seed-stage venture backed company, located in South San Francisco.  JLSa2 is focused upon developing novel multifunctional protein-drug conjugate therapies to address human metabolic diseases and other non-oncology related diseases. 

The company is seeking a Senior Scientist/Associate Director to lead the conjugation activities of these multifunctional conjugates as well as contribute to multiple aspects of product development as molecules progress from research stage to early clinical development. 

 

Responsibilities:

The candidate will lead research production of bioconjugation of proteins and peptides.  The candidate will work in a highly collaborative team with the analytical and functional assays teams, as well as senior leadership, to ensure alignment across functional areas to ensure rapid decision making and product iteration cycle time.  This position will supervise junior scientists and is expected to be on site at our SSF facility. 

Qualifications:

•     PhD in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or related scientific field and 5+ years of industry experience in the area of antibody/biologic conjugates is required OR

•     BS/MS in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, or related scientific field and 10+ years of industry experience in the area of biologic conjugates is required

•     Requires a strong background in bioconjugation reaction design and execution with attention to detail, understanding of database systems for sample and data management is preferred. 

•     Demonstrated proficiency in both hands-on lab work, management activities, and experience in designing experiments, scheduling work flows, as well as reviewing, organizing, and presenting data with experimental conclusions and follow on directions forward.

•     Experience with Design of Experiments (DoE), SAR, familiarity with analytical techniques for bioconjugates, protein expression and purification is preferred.  

•     Demonstrated leadership ability, including a commitment to mentorship and development of personnel. 

•     Flexibility to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced start up environment is essential.

•     Good communication skills are essential.

 

Salary Range: $150,000 – $180,000 (Compensation and level will be commensurate with experience and expertise and could fall outside of the stated range)
