Position Overview: As a Media Director at our audio agency, you will work closely with the SVP of Media to oversee advanced media planning and buying activities, lead a team of media buyers, and develop media strategies. Your role will involve managing partner relationships, ensuring the delivery of media campaigns, supporting the agency's strategic growth, and demonstrating thought leadership in the media industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with SVP of Media:

    • Work alongside the SVP of Media to align media strategies with overall business objectives and ensure cohesive execution.

  2. Oversee Advanced Media Planning and Buying:

    • Direct and supervise media planning and buying activities, ensuring alignment with client goals and agency best practices.

    • Expand the agency’s buying approach from traditional direct insertion orders to programmatic buying methods.

  3. Operational Efficiency:

    • Manage overall control of workflow, assign responsibilities within the group, and ensure maximum efficiency and productivity.

  4. Develop and Implement Innovative Media Strategies:

    • Create and execute media strategies that leverage audio and influencer platforms.

    • Integrate programmatic advertising techniques and tools into media strategies.

  5. Thought Leadership:

    • Provide thought leadership by staying at the forefront of industry trends, sharing insights, and driving innovation within the media landscape.

    • Participate in industry and internal conferences, panels, and contribute thought pieces to owned and paid media channels, representing Oxford Road’s innovative approach.

  6. Manage High-Level Partner Relationships:

    • Serve as a point of contact for key clients and vendors, ensuring satisfaction and fostering long-term partnerships.

  7. Lead and Mentor Media Buyers:

    • Provide leadership and guidance to media buyers and their teams, promoting a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

    • Train and mentor team members on programmatic advertising techniques and tools.

  8. Performance Analysis and Optimization:

    • Leverage insights from data to measure campaign effectiveness, optimize strategies, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).

  9. Budget Oversight:

    • Manage media budgets, ensuring effective allocation of resources and maximizing return on investment.

  10. Industry Trend Monitoring:

    • Monitor and leverage new technologies and methodologies to keep the agency at the forefront of the industry.

  11. Business Development:

    • Contribute to business development efforts and the growth of the agency.

  12. Data-Driven Media Plans:

    • Develop, review, and present data-driven media plans for clients and prospects based on advertising objectives and in accordance with the planning process.

  13. Quality Control:

    • Supervise the building and execution of media plans, ensure quality control, and enforce operational procedures and principles for the media department.

  14. Problem-Solving:

    • Help problem-solve and break through barriers to ensure timely completion of bookings and projects, and negotiate rates for yourself and direct reports.

  15. Financial Reconciliation:

    • Assist the finance department in reconciling variances and ensuring proper payments.

  16. Marketplace Knowledge:

    • Maintain deep marketplace and competitive knowledge to promote opportunities and lead clients effectively.

  17. Collaborative Relationships:

    • Communicate market conditions to account groups and other departments, fostering collaborative, harmonious, and productive relationships.

  18. Training and Development:

    • In collaboration with the SVP of Media, hire, promote, or release department personnel; ensure effective training to fulfill present and future needs. Participate in personnel development and growth initiatives.

  19. KPI Management:

    • Track and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) such as PTG, media unit pricing, media RFP rationale, and strategic opportunity growth.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Leadership and Management Skills:

    • Proven ability to lead and inspire a team of media professionals, manage conflicts, and drive overall team performance.

    • Experience in leading a team through technological transitions and adoption of new methodologies, particularly programmatic advertising.

  • Strategic Thinking:

    • Strong capacity to develop and implement innovative media strategies tailored to a multi-channel advertising landscape.

  • Client Relationship Management:

    • Excellent skills in managing and growing client relationships, ensuring long-term client satisfaction and business growth.

  • Industry Knowledge:

    • Deep understanding of media, including trends, and the ability to share insights with senior management or in external-facing formats such as panels.

  • Programmatic Advertising:

    • Experience with programmatic advertising techniques, tools, and platforms is highly preferred.

  • Operational and Analytical Skills:

    • Proficiency in data analysis and performance metrics to optimize media strategies.

    • Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, and at least one media buying system.

  • Negotiation and Organizational Skills:

    • Proven negotiation skills and exceptional organizational abilities.

    • Strong track record of meeting timelines and deadlines on projects.

  • Attention to Detail:

    • Strong emphasis on accuracy, detail, and follow-through.

  • Multi-Tasking:

    • Ability to multi-task and handle fast-paced, demanding environments.
