Are you passionate about reproductive justice, storytelling, and amplifying the voices of communities of color? SisterSong is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Communications & Special Events Intern to support our mission of advancing reproductive justice through powerful narrative shift, strategic digital engagement, and intentional convening.

 

Position Summary:  

The Communications & Special Events Intern plays a key role in supporting SisterSong’s Communications Team in uplifting our programs, campaigns, and events through impactful storytelling and thoughtful coordination. This position involves day-to-day administrative support, digital content creation, internal and external communications, and behind-the-scenes logistics for in-person and virtual events. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for reproductive justice, strong writing and organizational skills, and a deep commitment to shifting culture and narrative in service of liberation.

 

Duties

- Work with Comms consultant to develop8 and scheduling of social media content, e-blasts, and newsletters.  

- Support the creation and editing of graphics, videos, and other multimedia materials aligned with SisterSong’s voice and values.  

- Provide administrative support to the Communications Director and team, including meeting scheduling, note-taking, and document organization (when needed).

- Help track press mentions, media inquiries, and email engagement metrics.  

- Contribute to writing and editing content for digital campaigns, blogs, and storytelling initiatives.  

- Support event planning, including convenings, panels, and special gatherings by helping manage logistics (e.g., venue coordination, vendor outreach, travel and lodging for speakers).  

- Assist with event promotion across digital platforms and collaborate on the creation of event materials (programs, signage, swag, etc.).  

- Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to ensure messaging alignment and effective communications across all channels.  

 

Minimum Qualifications:  

- Previous experience in communications, social media, event coordination, or a related field.  

- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.  

- Proficiency in Canva, Google Workspace, and social media platforms (Instagram, Tiktok, Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn).  

- Familiarity with Mailchimp, Squarespace, or other digital tools is a plus.  

- Deep understanding of and commitment to reproductive justice, racial justice, and gender liberation.  

- Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced, values-driven environment.  

- ability to travel for various work-related events/projects.

Work Environment

This position is primarily remote, with potential opportunities to attend in-person events. We will work with team members to ensure adequate accommodations, travel and meals are provided to support effective participation and well-being.

 

Compensation & Hours:

This internship pays $25/hour for up to 20 hours per week. The position is part-time and designed to provide meaningful experience in nonprofit communications, events, and justice-centered storytelling.
