We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Wireless Operations Support Technician to join our team. In this role you would be responsible for field operations, including supporting and mentoring Broadband Technicians. This role includes complex troubleshooting and hardware replacement within network infrastructure (huts, cabinets, and shelters), working with business-grade phone systems and structured cabling, and providing hands-on support for engineering teams on networking-related tasks. A strong understanding of IP networking, telephony wiring, and system integration is essential, as is the ability to work independently and under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a support mentor for training and supporting Broadband Technicians
- Under Wireless Operations Manager/Network Engineer supervision troubleshoot and replace active and passive equipment in network huts, cabinets, and shelters, including switches, power systems, and environmental controls.
- Work with complex analog and VoIP phone systems, including installation, cross-connects, troubleshooting, and documentation of advanced wiring (e.g., punch blocks, 66/110 blocks).
- Support customer or internal escalations related to business-class services or advanced wiring configurations.
- Understand and apply IP networking concepts, including IP addressing, subnets, VLANs, DHCP, static routes, and basic switch/router configuration.
- Act as Smart Hands for network engineers: rack and stack equipment, console into devices, verify cabling and configurations under guidance.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of all work, including cabinet schematics, device configurations, and cross-connect layouts.
- Assist with the planning and execution of network upgrades, migrations, and special projects.
- Participate in infrastructure audits and ensure compliance with company standards and best practices.
- Maintain and ensure operational readiness of assigned tools, test equipment, and vehicles.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in telecommunications, broadband, or network field services.
- Proven experience with structured cabling, cabinet/hut maintenance, and advanced telephony systems.
- Solid understanding of network fundamentals, including Layer 2/3 concepts, IP addressing, and physical layer troubleshooting.
- Experience using CLI-based tools (e.g., SSH into switches/routers), labeling systems, and cabinet documentation best practices.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in critical situations.
- Excellent communication skills for mentoring and collaborating with internal teams.
Nice to Have
- Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Networking, Telecommunications, or Electronics
- Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, BICSI, or equivalent field training are a plus.
- OSHA 10 or equivalent safety certification preferred.
- Tower Climbing Certified
