Position Overview

Under supervision of the site principal and with direction from the school nurse, perform a variety of student-health-services- related record keeping; assist with health-related testing and screening; provide oral and minimal written English/Spanish translation; connect families with community health services and supports, and to perform related work as required.

Positions in this class work in a school performing administrative support work of moderate difficulty. Have a moderate level of public contact in person or on the telephone.


Qualifications:

Valid license from the Alabama Board of Nursing designating Licensed Practical Nurse.

Current CPR card.

Minimum of two (2) years experience in hospital or community health setting.

Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-­457.

Valid driver's license and the ability to have access to appropriate transportation to meet job requirements.

Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.

Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups.

Knowledge of current general medical and pediatric nursing practices.

Proficient in assessing vision and other appropriate health screening activities and programs (such as immunization audits).

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and school faculties.

Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-­paced, highly intensive work environment.

Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.

Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.

Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

Essential Functions:

Embodiment of the Pike Road Schools mission, vision and goals.

Practice within the subscribed parameters of the Alabama Nurse Practice Act, Alabama State Department of Education laws as well as other standards as they apply to the school nurse clinical setting.

Collaborate with the Nursing Supervisor to identify students with educational health needs.

Implement Individualized Health Care plans as written by you or the Nursing Supervisor; recognize and communicate inconstancies or ineffective plan components in a timely manner so that adjustments can be made.

Perform assessment, appropriate treatment and make recommendations for illness and injuries that occur in the school setting.

Administer medication in compliance with Pike Road School District procedures, state policies and laws.

Perform accurate and timely inventory of medications and equipment under your care.

Document all nursing activities in the INow system, and maintain standards of student sign in and pass system.

Appropriate and timely response to potential outbreaks of communicable disease to prevent spread as outlined in the PRS communicable disease prevention procedures.

Approve field trip schedule for assigned campus, and submit needs schedule for substitute nurses when appropriate for field trips.

Perform health education for individuals andooms as needed and when assigned by Nursing Supervisor.

Perform and assist with screenings as needed.

Suitably report potential or confirmed cases of abuse, medical neglect, or code of conduct violations to administration, supervisor and appropriate authority.

Stooping, bending, twisting, turning, reaching and lifting of heavy objects are routine in this position; performance of these functions within the OSHA recommended scope of appropriate workplace actions is expected.

Performs other duties as assigned by Nursing Supervisor or District Administration.

EVALUATION: Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Pike Road Board of Education policy on evaluation offied personnel.
