Theatre Projects is looking to add a Lighting Systems Designer to our team in New York or Connecticut. The Lighting Systems Designer will design experiential and performance lighting packages for performance venues; event spaces; immersive environments; experiential spaces; and retail, education, and corporate environments. Design work will include content and creative conceptualization, lighting plots, specification and layout of positions, fixtures, controls, control interfaces, and control systems. The designer will work closely with other team members to package and convey the design intent through CAD, BIM, and other modeling software. The designer will participate in the entire design process and maintain involvement through the bid, construction, and commissioning process to ensure Theatre Projects’ design intent and quality standards are followed.
The successful applicant will be an experiential designer with experience in architectural lighting and entertainment/immersive lighting design. A broad background in performance lighting design and control systems is key, as is in-depth knowledge of networked systems, especially at the interface of lighting and AV control systems. The right match for our team will be well-versed in the needs of temporary productions and permanent installations, have solid understanding of the interconnectedness and convergence of control protocols, be comfortable on sales calls, and be able to communicate complex concepts to clients.
We prefer this position to be located in our New York or Connecticut office, but candidates from Denver will also be considered. Salary range and title listed below are for candidates at the stated senior consultant level. Candidates with more seniority will also be considered.
Position responsibilities:
- Design and lay out performance lighting systems, network systems, and theatrical lighting plots using strong understanding of architectural and theatrical lighting control systems and dimming protocols
- Work in 2D and 3D CAD and BIM platforms to develop designs and documentation, including Revit, ElumTools, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam
- Design pixel-mapped systems including calculating power supply requirements and determining power and data injection within a large array of pixels
- Define head end equipment and media servers and map and commission such systems
- Design systems to generate live content through user feedback, including motion tracking, dimmers, sliders, and environmental inputs
- Apply architectural and theatrical lighting best practices and approach to your work and advise other team members on same
- Prepare equipment schedules and budgets, including pricing from tape to connectors to supplies to servers
- Prepare design narratives and advisory documentation
- Coordinate with design team engineers
- Perform client and sales work in North America, including travel
- Use and maintain the methods and tools outlined by Theatre Projects’ standards and practices guidelines
- Participate in team meetings, cross-departmental duties as assigned, and collaboration sessions
- Provide onsite services as required by the project scope
Essential skills and experience:
- Technical experience in architectural, corporate, event, museum, art piece, and performance lighting design, and control system design
- Experience in industry-standard software platforms: Revit, AutoCAD, and ElumTools. Current proficiency in these software platforms is highly valued, but willingness to become proficient quickly is required.
- Experience with motion tracking, dimmers, sliders, and environmental inputs for live content installations
- Experience creating efficient interfaces between lighting and other control systems, such as AV
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems
- Ability to communicate complex concepts to clients in an engaging and interactive way
- Ability to meet deadlines with an accurate work product
- Ability to problem-solve and prioritize tasks from multiple sources

Senior Consultant level. Salary range: $75,000 - $90,000 with great benefits like no-cost-to-employee health, dental, and vision coverage.
