Background 


The Lupus Research Alliance (LRA) is the largest nonprofit organization leading the world in innovative research to improve the lives of those living with lupus today and to prevent and cure lupus tomorrow. The Alliance has created an affiliate, Lupus Therapeutics LLC (LT), to oversee clinical research trials and patient engagement, as well as the Lupus Clinical Investigators Network (LuCIN) to facilitate the development of new and existing therapies to treat, cure, and ultimately prevent lupus. 

Recognizing the need for greater participation and engagement in clinical trials among those most impacted by lupus, LT, and LRA recently launched its hallmark health equity initiative, Project CHANGE, a community-based health action network that will help increase meaningful and equitable clinical trial awareness, participation, and retention among people of color living with lupus.

Lupus Therapeutics, in conjunction with the Lupus Research Alliance, is seeking a proactive, professional, detail-oriented, personable individual to assist with all health equity programs and activities. Lupus Therapeutics and Lupus Research Alliance are consistently working to create and maintain innovative and inclusive health equity programs and campaigns, where the prioritization of diversity and inclusion is paramount. This position supports these core messages.   

The Program Coordinator, Health Equity will support the Project Manager, Health Equity with the development, implementation, and coordination of health equity initiatives across LRA and LT, including Project CHANGE.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Provide support to the project lead and LT leadership in implementing Project CHANGE and additional programs/initiatives that increase diversity and equitable access in lupus clinical trials and initiatives. 
  • Assist the project team in monitoring the timeline, progress, and milestones of Project CHANGE
  • Assist in cultivating and maintaining relationships with Project CHANGE stakeholders, including the Steering Committee, Research and Evaluation partners, and other key collaborators by maintaining frequent communication, taking detailed minutes/notes, and sharing resources when applicable.
  • Coordinate internal and external health equity meetings/convenings (both in-person and virtual), including scheduling and co-facilitating meetings, leading and managing administrative tasks including recording minutes, preparing agendas, and travel/logistical arrangements, and preparing and delivering presentations.
  • Collaborate on strategic communication and outreach efforts for Health Equity initiatives
  • Liaise with the Clinical Operations team to ensure that health equity efforts are available to the LuCIN network and LT’s clinical trial partners
  • Assist with Project CHANGE data collection and analysis
  • Collaborate with Patient Engagement and other teams to ensure the voices of those living with lupus are amplified in health equity efforts
  • Work with other departments (i.e. Research and Advocacy) to assist on new programs to incorporate health equity strategies into new and existing programs 
  • Implement and execute health equity best practices 
  • Travel as required 

    QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

    • BS plus two years' experience required
    • Candidates should have an understanding of the social determinants of health, health equity, and how larger systems contribute to health disparities.
    • Individuals must be compassionate, empathetic, and comfortable working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, individuals living with chronic diseases, caregivers, practitioners, academic medical staff, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, grassroots organizations, researchers, etc.
    • Demonstrated passion for inclusion and health equity
    • Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and in a team-oriented environment both within the organization and with external stakeholders.
    • A strong understanding of community engagement and Community-Based Participatory Research best practices
    • Excellent time-management and organizational skills with an ability to balance multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adjust with flexibility — all with attention to detail.
    • Ability to build trust and relationships with individuals and community partners.
    • Familiarity with applying a comprehensive health equity lens to research programs and initiatives.
    • Microsoft Office proficient, with an emphasis on Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Familiarity with collaborative software systems, including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint is preferred.
    • Availability to travel when needed
