Position Title: Scientific Program Officer

Location: Hybrid NYC Office or remote
Salary: $100,000 -$110,000
Background
The Lupus Research Alliance (LRA) is the world’s leading non-governmental, non-profit funder of lupus research. Over the past 25 years, the LRA has invested over $270 million in lupus research in more than 660 research and clinical studies. More recently, the LRA established the Lupus Accelerating Breakthroughs Consortium (Lupus ABC) — a public-private partnership (PPP) with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) bringing together people living with lupus and their advocates, members of academia, biopharmaceutical companies, federal agencies, and professional societies to collaboratively address challenges in lupus drug development.
Position Overview
The Scientific Program Officer (SPO) will play a central role in managing and advancing the mission of Lupus ABC. This individual will oversee a portfolio of projects, serving as a liaison across industry, academia, patient advocacy and professional organizations, and government agencies. The position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Research.
Responsibilities
The SPO will be responsible for a range of activities related to Lupus ABC including:
- Work closely with academic investigators, industry partners, and FDA liaisons to advance Lupus ABC’s mission and its strategic priorities
- Cultivate Lupus ABC collaborations with external stakeholders and ensure alignment with Lupus ABC’s mission and evolving needs
- Prepare meeting agendas, background materials, for scientific and regulatory discussions
- Provide strategic and operational support to working groups including the processes leading up to their establishment
- Monitor project progress, ensure timelines are met, and provide updates to leadership
- Facilitate the development of documents and publications
- Support communications to share Lupus ABC’s progress with the scientific community and the general public
- Support Lupus ABC administrative and patient-focused (Lupus Voices Council) activities
- Follow and develop standard operation procedures and maintain records to comply with regulatory and LRA requirements
- Ensure that the confidentiality and data privacy/security of all information is maintained
- Participate in both internal and external stakeholder meetings. Develop and deliver presentations as required
Credentials & Qualifications
- PhD or equivalent in a biomedical or clinical discipline required
- At least five years of work experience following the attainment of the highest degree required
- Experience in clinical trials and drug development is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of immunology, translational science, regulatory science, or related field is preferred
- Proficiency in developing scientific reports, manuscripts, presentations, and budgets
- Candidates are expected to have a high level of proficiency in general business applications including Microsoft Office
- Ability to travel
