Background
This is an exciting professional opportunity to support a critical initiative for the lupus community. Be part of a team of LRA staff, academic and industry experts, regulators, and individuals living with lupus who are dedicated to advancing the mission of the Lupus Accelerating Breakthroughs Consortium (Lupus ABC), a public-private partnership with the US Food and Drug Administration. The Lupus ABC is managed by the Lupus Research Alliance (LRA), the world’s largest non-governmental, non-profit funder of lupus research. Since its inception, the LRA has invested over $270 million in lupus research in more than 600 research and clinical studies and has launched several critical community infrastructure programs including the Lupus ABC.
Position Overview
The Project Manager will be primarily responsible for managing the operations of Lupus ABC by coordinating activities, tracking deliverables, timelines, project schedules, and more. A small portion of the Project Manager’s time will be devoted to managing the LRA Lupus Industry Council (LIC) activities. The position reports to the LRA Assistant Vice President of Research.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for a range of activities related to Lupus ABC and LIC including:
- Manage Lupus ABC overall activities
- Develop, oversee, and implement a project tracking system that covers all elements of Lupus ABC
- Measure performance, track milestones and accountabilities using appropriate project management tools
- Assist in the implementation of Lupus ABC program and project deliverables
- Oversee the tracking and completion of annual COI forms and other compliance documents
- Support work on Lupus ABC Executive Committee, Research Committee, Lupus Voices Council and working groups, as required, including but not limited to:
- Planning meeting schedules
- Assisting in preparing background materials
- Managing meetings: share slides, organize voting when needed, manage participation of members with conflict
- Attending LVC, RC and workgroup meetings, drafting and distributing meeting minutes and following on action items

- Draft Lupus ABC correspondence, newsletters, lay-language project updates, and other written communications to Lupus ABC members, spanning a variety of partners including industry, academia, government, lupus patients, professional societies and non-profit organizations
- Work with LRA meetings staff to support planning and execution of in-person Lupus ABC meetings
- Manage Lupus ABC operations
- Organize all Lupus ABC related materials and ensure that future Lupus ABC materials are appropriately stored and can be easily accessed by the internal LRA Lupus ABC team
- Lead the weekly Lupus ABC internal staff meeting including establishing goals, agendas, and following up on action items
- Draft annual budgets, and track expenditures against the approved budget
- Solicit, retain, and manage vendors
- Manage Lupus ABC membership in coordination with Development and Finance to ensure the member roster is always up to date, membership dues have been remitted on time, and any changes in staffing at the individual member companies are quickly reflected in Lupus ABC’s internal tracking system
- Support activities related to the engagement of new Lupus ABC members and potential partners including sharing Lupus ABC materials and onboarding members
- Partner with LRA’s Communications team, and the Scientific Communications and Program Manager to oversee Lupus ABC website and ensure it is up to date, as well as to facilitate any press releases, and other public announcements
- Supervise the Administrative Assistant for Lupus ABC on all activities
- Provide project management support for the Lupus Industry Council (LIC), including:
- Maintain an up-to-date list of LIC members
- Prepare meeting materials and follow-up on post-meeting action items
- Communicate with LIC members and potential new members
- Track progress of projects
- Develop a semiannual LIC newsletter
- Ability to travel to Lupus ABC, LIC and LRA meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred, ideally in a health science area
- Minimum 5 years of related experience
- Excellent writing and communications skills
- Demonstrated experience managing complex projects with numerous internal and external partners
- Previous experience with administration of scientific research projects a plus
