Business Lead Job Description
The Business Lead is an active member of the firm's Senior Leadership Team where they represent their practice area and must work collaboratively within the Senior Leadership Team to advance firm objectives. The Business Lead's primary objective is to execute against the strategy and performance goals for the assigned practice area and leverage all available profit levers to achieve revenue targets and attain a healthy profit margin. The Business Lead is responsible for developing and delivering the strategy and vision for the business line ensuring profitability and growth for the practice. The Business Lead is accountable for the implementation and execution of strategies, plans, and tactics that promote the overall health and growth of the practice through delivery of best-in-class services, project success, revenue generation, and customer satisfaction & consultant capabilities.
Role and Responsibilities
Practice Strategy & Plan
The Business Lead is responsible for developing, and executing on, a vision and strategic plan for the practice and development & delivery of services to achieve the practice objectives. Collaborate as needed with all other offices to ensure alignment with the company strategy and vision and effectively leverage firm resources.
- Drive consistent and optimal performance and operations delivery of practice services to achieve defined business goals
- Develop and deliver leadership and change management strategies, plans, and messaging as needed, i.e. rollout of new service offerings, refinement of existing service offering, updates to staff management or firm policies, etc.
- Serve in client facing role as needed for practice engagements and act as advisor for all projects that involve new service offerings within practice
- Foster & maintain mutually beneficial relationships / partnerships with vendors, peers and staff to ensure a growth-oriented culture of accountability and collaboration
- Keep abreast of technology and consulting trends impacting nonprofit technology sector as applicable for practice
- Own research and development strategy for emerging services in practice
Financial Performance & Profitability
The Business Lead is responsible for achieving revenue and profitability targets for the practice by effectively utilizing profit levers and managing the practice P&L.
- Consistently meet practice revenue targets
- Set, and manage to, practice expense budget to achieve profitability targets
- Monitor and report on practice KPIs to ensure practice performance is consistent with practice & overall firm financials and resource optimization
Heller Brand Impact
The Business Lead is responsible for contributing to the development and growth of the Heller brand in the market and leveraging and promoting the practice team and services in particular.
- Collaboratively develop new, and continually refine existing, service offerings to ensure they align to, and drive, market demand and Heller quality standards
- Collaboratively support all new business development opportunities and continuous client journey for subsequent opportunities to achieve sales targets and secure revenue
- Contribute to the development, and ensure execution within the practice, of marketing plan to support promotion of practice offerings, team members, and Heller brand
Practice Team
The Business Lead is responsible for growing, developing & retaining practice team members to deliver on practice services and objectives.
- Own business line headcount planning and participate in the talent acquisition process
- Work closely with central support team to build and ensure realization of training & enablement plan(s) for tenured and new team members to deliver practice services
- Manage practice team members' performance lifecycle including goal setting, improvement plans, performance evaluations, feedback and compensation
- Collaboratively develop and ensure realization of strategies for career pathing and succession planning for practice team members
- Maximize utilization and ensure business line team members' billable/revenue goals are met
- Ensure the development of team technical and non-technical capability while working through, and developing, practice management staff to meet succession planning and talent profile goals.
