Director of Marketing Job Description

The Director of Marketing owns the public face of Heller Consulting. The position leads the marketing process from research and planning through to execution and analysis. The position is also responsible for managing multiple stakeholders both outside of the firm and throughout the firm that contribute to the Heller brand including the consulting team, sales team, freelancers, partners, and executive team.

Responsibilities

Strategy 

  • Drive marketing strategy with support from Executive Team, business development team, and other marketing subject matter experts in the firm.  
  • Develop, lead, and implement marketing plans that support business development goals and firm thought leadership goals.  
  • Manage marketing budget and marketing spending priorities.  
  • Lead and regularly report on the execution of marketing strategy, ensuring the quality of leads and support of the business development pipeline. 
  • Attend regular meetings with internal stakeholders to stay current with trends the team is seeing in projects and business development conversations.    
  • Analyze analytics available on Pardot, Salesforce, Moz, and Google Analytics and use those analytics to inform Heller Consulting team and guide strategy.   
  • Support sales and lead generation efforts through data-driven campaigns.  
  • Manage relationships with external marketing consultant(s) and freelancers, including contract negotiation and management.  
  • Continually research competitors and partners in the nonprofit technology space to assess where Heller thought leadership should be placed and shifts in the market that need to be reflected in Heller marketing materials.  
  • Leverage and stay current on technology tools such as Pardot, Canva, Salesforce, and Moz to create a loop of reporting and improving upon marketing strategies 
  • Work closely with the leadership team to support new service lines and clearly communicate those to our target markets  
  • Collaborate with external partners (e.g., Salesforce, Microsoft, NetHope) on co-marketing efforts and advocate for Heller’s goals  
  • Serve as one of the faces and voices of Heller Consulting in external blog posts, videos, and thought leadership content  
  • Lead the relationship with services to engage consultants in thought leadership materials (webinars, blogs, guides, case studies) 
  • Stay current on marketing trends and incorporating relevant trends into the Heller marketing strategy  

Content Marketing  

  • Craft a comprehensive marketing calendar that encompasses firm thought leadership goals and content that supports those goals.  
  • Source Heller subject matter experts to create engaging blog posts, guides, webinars, emails, videos, and client stories.  
  • Create marketing assets including emails, forms, layouts, and graphics for website, blog, guides, marketing sheets and social media 
  • Manage logistics of all webinars, including setting up registration, website landing pages, and download links; coordinate with participants to ensure development of brand-appropriate presentation, serve as webinar moderator; ensure all webinar activity is captured in Salesforce in order to support lead generation and nurturing  
  • Provide regular reports to greater Heller team on successful content and content direction changes 
  • Manage freelance writer schedules and budget; assign content to writers and coordinate with guest authors 
  • Write, edit and regularly update blog and website content 
  • Manage website content, including blog posts, ensuring effective SEO optimization 
  • Create a wide variety of marketing videos for the website, email, social media, sales, and internal purposes 

Email Marketing  

  • Function as the main point of contact for Pardot and maintain Pardot expertise through certification and certification updates  
  • Stay updated on Pardot releases and changes to ensure Heller Consulting is compliant with Pardot policies and making use of the latest features 
  • Craft email campaigns that leverage the power of Pardot including segmentation, scoring, and profiles 
  • Create, manage and monitor Pardot automations that inform the business development team of qualified prospects  
  • Write compelling email copy and design email assets that render well across email clients 
  • Manage Pardot storage and set up structure including scoring categories, profiles, folders, and email templates 
  • Monitor email deliverability and regularly clean lists to ensure our email lists are compliant with privacy and security best practices  

Social Media Management 

  • Run point for all Heller Consulting social media promotion 
  • Lead Heller Consulting team on social media promotion strategy  
  • Post and engage on Heller Consulting LinkedIn 
  • Equip staff with information on specific promotions and company branding  
  • Request input and photos from staff for specific events 
  • Continually research and determine shifts in strategy needed as a result of changes to social media platforms and algorithms  

Website Management  

  • Lead the direction of website content as well as the look and feel of the website 
  • Regularly update the website and implement website enhancements to align with marketing strategies and firm goals  
  • Manage server and domain renewals and changes  
  • Work directly with external vendors for the website including contract negotiations and management
  • Monitor website performance and continually optimize content to attract the Heller target market and encourage conversions  

Co-Marketing and Guest Publishing  

  • Write and create content for other websites  
  • Pitch Heller Consulting content and thought leadership to targeted websites and publications  
  • Lead co-marketing partnership strategy and manage day-to-day tasks associated with those partnerships  
  • Provide social media content as needed for marketing partners and published Heller Consulting guest articles  

Conferences 

  • Lead Heller’s presence across conferences including when to sponsor, when to present, when to participate and managing partner relationships in the process 
  • Develop, or coordinate the development of and enhance presentations for, Heller and other presenters 
  • Create custom content for conferences including videos, one-page PDFs, presentations, and virtual booths 
  • Function as main point person for conference logistics  
  • Work with food vendors 
  • Gather information from conference contacts 

Heller Consulting Branding  

  • Manage and maintain standards  
  • Participate in internal initiatives with the goal of ensuring the Heller brand is represented consistently in all internal and external deliverables 
  • Provide ad hoc design support to Heller Consulting projects and sales collateral  
  • Seek out and lead the adoption of design tools for Heller staff to better showcase the Heller brand  
  • Work with Director of People Operations to place and monitor job postings 

Other Marketing Responsibilities   

  • Order Heller Consulting marketing promotional items and staff gifts  
  • Develop and deliver the marketing update at monthly staff meetings and annual staff retreat  
  • Collaborate closely with Sales team to support account-based marketing efforts
